In paperback for the first time, an authoritative bibliography of Jung's works in German and English A record of all of Jung's publications in German and in English, this volume replaces the general bibliography published in 1979 as Volume 19 of the Collected Works of C. G. Jung. In the form of a checklist, this revised general bibliography records through 1990 the initial publication of each original work by Jung, each translation into English, and all significant new editions, including paperbacks and publications in periodicals. The contents of the volumes of the Collected Works of C. G. Jung and the Gesammelte Werke (published in Switzerland) are listed in parallel to show the relation between the two editions. Jung's seminars are dealt with in detail and, where possible, information is provided about the origin of works that were first conceived as lectures. There are indexes of all publications, personal names, organizations and societies, and periodicals.

In paperback for the first time, an authoritative collection of Jung's writings on contemporary events, including The Undiscovered Self and Flying Saucers Civilization in Transition features Jung's writings on contemporary events, especially the relation between the individual and society. In the earliest essay, "The Role of the Unconscious" (1918), Jung advanced the theory that World War I was a psychological crisis originating in the collective unconscious of individuals. In other essays included here, he pursued this theory in the 1920s and 1930s, focusing on the upheaval in Germany, and he gave it a much wider application in two major works of his last years, also featured here--The Undiscovered Self, which is concerned with the relation between the individual and a mass society, and Flying Saucers, on the birth of a myth that Jung regarded as a reaction to the scientific trends of a technological era.

This present volume gives the substance of Jung's published writings on Freud and psychoanalysis between the years 1906 and 1916; two later papers are, however, added for reasons which will become apparent. The scientific papers in this volume, while falling short of a complete account of Freud and psychoanalysis, nevertheless give the essential elements in Jung's changing views on this subject.

The importance of this volume of scientific papers for understanding Jung's researchers as a whole can scarcely be overrated, even though most of them are now mainly of historical interest or represent the reflections of his later years on a subject that never ceased to engage his active psychotherapeutic endeavors.

After joining the staff of the Burgholzli Mental Hospital in 1900, Jung developed and applied the word association tests for studying normal and abnormal psychology. Between 1904 and 1907 he published nine studies on the association experiments, of which six were brought together, with articles by other researchers, in a collection later published in English as Studies In Word-Association (1918). The present volume consists of the original nine studies together with tow lectures on the association method that Jung gave in 1909 when, with Freud, he was invited to Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts, and three articles on psychophysical researches.

The volume opens with Jung's desertion for the medical degree: 'On the Psychology and Pathology of So-called Occult Phenomena, ' a study that foreshadows much of his later work and as such is indispensable to all serious students of his work.

2021 Hardcover Reprint of the 1933 U.S. Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Considered by many to be one of the most important books in the field of psychology, Modern Man in Search of a Soul is a comprehensive introduction to the thought of Carl Gustav Jung. The writing covers a broad array of subjects such as gnosticism, theosophy, Eastern philosophy and spirituality in general. The first part of the book deals with dream analysis in its practical application, the problems and aims of modern psychotherapy, and also his own theory of psychological types. The middle section addresses Jung's beliefs about the stages of life and Archaic man. He also contrasts his own theories with those of Sigmund Freud. In the latter parts of the book Jung discusses psychology and literature and devotes a chapter to the basic postulates of analytical psychology. The last two chapters are devoted to the spiritual problem of modern man in aftermath of World War I. He compares it to the flowering of gnosticism in the 2nd century and investigates how psychotherapists are like the clergy.

2016 Reprint of 1924 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. In this classic work, originally published in 1921, Jung categorized people into primary types of psychological function. He proposed four main functions of consciousness: Two perceiving functions: Sensation and Intuition Two judging functions: Thinking and FeelingThe functions are modified by two main attitude types: extraversion and introversion. Jung theorized that the dominant function characterizes consciousness, while its opposite is repressed and characterizes unconscious behavior. The eight psychological types are as follows: Extraverted sensation Introverted sensation Extraverted intuition Introverted intuition Extraverted thinking Introverted thinking Extraverted feeling Introverted feelingIn "Psychological Types," Jung describes in detail the effects of tensions between the complexes associated with the dominant and inferior differentiating functions in highly and even extremely one-sided types.

2014 Reprint of 1928 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. This volume has become known as perhaps the best introduction to Jung's work. In these two famous essays: "The Relations between the Ego and the Unconscious" and "On the Psychology of the Unconscious," he presented the essential core of his system. Historically, they mark the end of Jung's intimate association with Freud and sum up his attempt to integrate the psychological schools of Freud and Adler into a comprehensive framework. Review:"This book must be considered a fundamental work among Jung's writings and deserves to be read by Jungians and non-Jungians alike."-"American Journal of Psychotherapy""[This work] is important as evidence of the evolution of Jung's thought (the book contains the original essays which were written in 1912 and 1916 as well as their most recent revisions) and is valuable as an introduction to the 'analytical' or 'complex' psychology of the Jungian school. . . ."--Thomas J. Mens C.G.

In this challenging and provocative work, Dr. Carl Jung-one of history's greatest minds-argues that civilization's future depends on our ability as individuals to resist the collective forces of society. Only by gaining an awareness and understanding of one's unconscious mind and true, inner nature-"the undiscovered self"-can we as individuals acquire the self-knowledge that is antithetical to ideological fanaticism. But this requires that we face our fear of the duality of the human psyche-the existence of good and the capacity for evil in every individual. In this seminal book, Jung compellingly argues that only then can we begin to cope with the dangers posed by mass society - the sum total of individuals - and resist the potential threats posed by those in power.

Jung's lectures on consciousness and the unconscious-in English for the first timeBetween 1933 and 1941, C. G. Jung delivered a series of public lectures at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Intended for a general audience, these lectures addressed a broad range of topics, from dream analysis and yoga to the history of psychology. They are at the center of Jung's intellectual activity in this period and provide the basis of his later work. Here for the first time in English is Jung's introduction to his core psychological theories and methods, delivered in the summer of 1934.With candor and wit, Jung shares with his audience the path he himself took to understanding the nature of consciousness and the unconscious. He describes their respective characteristics using examples from his clinical experience as well as from literature, his travels, and everyday life. For Jung, consciousness is like a small island in the ocean of the unconscious, while the unconscious is part of the primordial condition of humankind. Jung explains various methods for uncovering the contents of the unconscious, in particular talk therapy and dream analysis.Complete with explanations of Jungian concepts and terminology, Consciousness and the Unconscious painstakingly reconstructs and translates these talks from detailed shorthand notes by attendees, making a critical part of Jung's work available to today's readers.
