They collectively present a New York City over an imaginary 24-hour period, key historical events such as the immigration surge of the late 19th century and the 9/11 attacks subtly woven into the volume's poetic narrative with sensitivity and respect. As New York emerges from yet another life-changing experience caused by the Covid-19 global pandemic, Roiter's intimate portrait of New York and its inhabitants stands as a stoic reminder of life after death, of light after darkness.
