This is a new translation of the Gospels from Greek into conversational English. In this translation, the four Gospels are blended into a single account so that the reader can get the whole picture of Jesus' life and teachings as we know it from the Bible. Words that are common in most English translations but that no longer carry the real meaning of the original writers have been replaced with words or phrases that carry the original meaning. Difficult names have been moved into the footnotes or the Glossary. Nearly half of the book is extensive Glossary articles to provide the reader with background information, helping the reader understand the characters and events as they would have been understood by the first readers. Charlie Webster has researched the Gospels and their backgrounds extensively. What you get may help with theological studies, but it's not about deep theological investigations, it's about getting to know who Jesus really is and what he really taught in his earthly ministry. And it's about making that information easily available to anybody from a teenager to a centenarian.
Broadcaster and abuse survivor Charlie Webster uses her own lived experience alongside advice from experts to create a companion for trauma survivors - a book that will help, explain, understand and navigate the impact of trauma on our lives.
Christian love is the heart and soul of Christianity. Saving faith is and must be faithful. And eternal life that's really living is the motivation. Unfortunately, all three are terribly misunderstood by almost all Christians and practically all non-Christians. This book provides twelve study sessions, four on Christian love, four on Christian faith, and four on the Christian hope of eternal life. Learn the good news side and the bad news side of Christian love. Learn how Jesus, Paul, and other early Christians defined faith and the real difference between faith and belief in the Bible. Learn how Jesus' picture of eternal life is far better than ours. "Wow! I started reading this and couldn't quit. I'm astonished at how far off we in the church seem to have got from what the Bible teaches. One-by-one Mr. Webster tackled the issues that had hurt my motivation as a Christian, showing how the Bible provides a better perspective than what I had seen. Warning: This made me rethink some of the traditions I thought I would never challenge. This calls for some serious rethinking of what most denominations have taught for a long time." - John Meyer
