The centuries old conflict between the Irish Nationalists and the British Unionists heated up in the late 1960's leading to the period of unrest which became known as The Troubles. Many Irishmen and Irishwomen became caught up in fighting for "The Cause". The Irish were supported by a number of North Americans of Irish heritage and by some revolutionaries from other parts of the world. As with most militant political movements, many innocent civilians suffered. This is a story of three young women who lived through the early years of the Troubles.
In the aftermath of the sudden death of the Chief of Surgery, a new surgeon is brought on staff at Fairbridge General. The members of the hospital community soon realize that their environment has become altered dramatically by the arrival of this newcomer. Grappling with the ensuing issues becomes a major problem at Fairbridge. Apparently all doctors are not created equal.
