As all of us know, life has its ups and downs. In many ways life truly is a rollercoaster. A rollercoaster goes up, comes down, goes around curves, enters the dark at times, twists, and in some cases, goes backwards. I think that using a rollercoaster is a great example that can describe life perfectly. How is one able to navigate all the ups and downs, twists, and turns, as well as the darkness that is experienced on occasions? The key, I believe, is a faith in a living God. This living God allows Himself to be known through the person of Jesus Christ. This devotional is slightly different than most devotionals. The devotionals contained in this volume were written over a period of time and as the current events were taking place. As you will experience, there are numerous events mentioned that were part of our lives, some that may be distant to you and some that occurred daily that you may have been somewhat close. Since I am a sports junkie, you will find several references in this devotional pertaining to sporting events that have taken place. Most of the sporting events refer to the teams in Philadelphia. Each devotion is two pages in length and is written in a way to help you think about your relationship with God. It is my prayer that after completing the reading of this devotional you will find yourself closer to God and understand who He is clearer.
Millions of people go to work every day. It doesn't matter what profession in which a person finds themselves; they are earning a living, so they say. Hopefully they are doing what they love to do. The average worker spends almost 6 days per week at work while spending less than 6 hours per week with family. With such a disparity between the two, what should be happening in the workplace, especially as believers? In this book, we will discover that God uses the workplace in our lives not just to earn a living, but to live life. The life that is lived is to be one through Christ in the workplace. Relationships play a major role in the workplace and, since so much time is spent there, God wants to use it as a mechanism of transformation in our lives. Dr. Clark delves into the many areas of our lives that touches us in the workplace. Some of those areas we might not even consider to be impacted by the workplace. Through his exploration of Genesis, we are able to see where work originated and why work is necessary in our lives besides just for making money. Some of the subjects that will be explored are: self-awareness; understanding people; dealing with difficult people; anger in the workplace; standing alone; being a team player; is there a difference between secular and Christian work for the believer; stress, self-care; and a new way of looking at work. As believers, God's job is to shape us into the image of His Son. He desires that the process occurs on a continual basis. That means God uses the workplace as part of His plan to accomplish that desire. As we yield to the Spirit of God in the workplace, our lives are tremendously impacted, as well as the lives of those around us. As we yield to the Spirit of God in the workplace, He uses us as a light to shine in the darkness as well as using the darkness to reveal the absence of light in our lives. As we go to our places of employment, we will learn through the pages of this book how to allow God to transform our lives so that our lives might be used as a conduit for God to transform others.
