Lucky socks. Perineum sunning. Qi, Intelligent Design. Bigfoot. Throughout human history and even today, our quests to explain the unknown, calm our fears, and in many cases, seize power over the masses has resulted in addictions to outlandish, often downright ridiculous beliefs and superstitions. Embedded in culture and tradition across the globe, these entrenched beliefs have cost untold amounts of money and human suffering at the hands of shysters and con artists. While the practice of rumpology (predicting the future by reading the dimples on one's butt) may cause fits of laughter, many tenets from Holy books of over 10,000 religions across are no less ridiculous, grotesque at worst, and contradictory at best. Join me on a journey to seek truth based on scientific evidence for the many claims made from a plethora of beliefs and practices. Not all topics covered are bullshit. Some claims have evidence to support their positions. Most do not. But to be perfectly honest, we are ALL addicted to some form of bullshit! Your addiction might be a God, rumpology, witch doctor, or black magic. Mine is that humanity will someday start acting, rather than speaking as if it cares about our children's future, the planet we live on, and the other creatures we are privileged to share it with. I hope you find the book enlightening or food for thought. If not, put it on your shelf in the bathroom and use it for emergency toilet paper for the next pandemic.
Reptiles and Amphibians of Red River Gorge and the Greater Red River Basin chronicles the herpetofauna of the Red River Gorge in Kentucky, a national geological area and a fast-growing tourist region. This book was created for the general public to inform and educate about the reptiles and amphibians of the area and to highlight their importance in ecosystems.
In addition, a small section on flowering woody vines, shrubs, and trees is included, making the book the most comprehensive natural guide to one of Kentucky's most well-known natural recreational areas.
A glossary of terms and tips for preparing wild food make this guide an invaluable resource for hikers, climbers, and campers visiting the region.
