Hank and Frank Learn to Cancel "I can't" was inspired by Henry learning to push past failure, hard things, and/or not being good at something. Henry fell into a mindset of "I can't" when he felt defeat, frustration, and overwhelm. This led to Henry giving up on himself and spiraling into a negative headspace. It is important for young people to acknowledge their limits, and that they can learn to do this in more encouraging and empowering ways than simply saying "I can't." And sometimes, many times, they can push past those limits and learn that they can do more than they thought they ever could.
Dedicated to the real Hank and Frank, Henry and Frankie, my dear son and our dog. As Henry grows up, together we work to move through challenges with a mindset of learning. When we face a hard moment, we think about what coping tools we need to practice to get through this moment. We normalize that growing up and learning is full of challenges and mistakes and that can lead to hard, messy, and beautiful moments. Together, Henry and I have come up with these Hank and Frank books to share some of our learning to help you move through the hard, messy, and challenging times in a more effective and healthy way. And to come out of those moments feeling empowered and resilient!
