A Journey through Seven Decades of Radio and Tv David Hamilton's 'Long and Winding Road' has taken him from the remote farm in Sussex where he grew up, dreaming of the bright lights, to working all over the UK and in America in a broadcasting career that has lasted for seven decades, eventually bringing him back after over fifty years to the same farm where he started, from which he would broadcast on national radio in his mid-eighties. This road took David to Germany where, during his National Service in the RAF, he became one of the first DJs to play rock 'n' roll. Four years later, he did one of the first TV interviews with a new group called The Beatles. Since then he has presented thousands of radio shows and on television has hosted Top of the Pops, beauty contests, sports and game shows and appeared alongside top comedians. In this amazingly frank memoir, David tells what it was like working with such comedy greats as Ken Dodd, Benny Hill and Tommy Cooper; of the two serious car crashes he had in his twenties; of how he rode in a speedway race at Wembley Stadium; about his time as a football club director and how he played in the England team that won the World Cup in 1966. David writes of the beautiful women he has loved. His life, his loves, his laughs. It's all here, from one of Britain's most enduring broadcasters.

Learn how practicing the art of kindfulness can support your mental and physical health, assist with memory and concentration, and help you find true happiness. Kindfulness encapsulates all that mindfulness is but expands it with the addition of kindness. It brings all the benefits that mindfulness does and much more. Research has shown that kindfulness as a practice boosts happiness, relaxes the nervous system, reduces blood pressure and inflammation, helps to relieve muscular (especially back) pain, and even reduces the rate of wear and tear at the genetic level. Kindfulness takes us out of ourselves and our troubles and stresses, and shifts our focus onto the needs and well-being of others. It warms us from the inside. This book is an invitation to bring kindness to work, to our neighborhoods, and into our homes. Kindfulness inspires us to see the best in each other, to value each other, and to treat each other with respect. It guides us to empathize with people’s challenges, to walk a mile or two in their shoes, and inspires us to do what we can to help. But kindfulness does not equate to being soft or a pushover. It can be fierce, passionate, and energy fuelled. It can be loud. Kindfulness can inspire us to laugh together, to dance together, to sing at the top of our voices. Kindfulness is a celebration of our humanness. This book will teach you how to expand mindfulness away from self-focus with kindness, and provides a set of guidelines for living more kindfully. You will discover how kindfulness is both a practice and a way of being in everyday life that can bring us the joy and contentment we all crave.

  • - To Discipline the Devil's Regions
    af David Hamilton

Geoffrey Chaucer opened his Canterbury Tales with the words When in April the sweet showers fall And pierce the drought of March to the root, and all The veins are bathed in liquor of such power As brings about the engendering of the flower, These gives us insight into the turning of the seasons as we move from the cold and misery of winter to a new time. This book is to herald that change. I particularly explain the cold and negativity of contemporary art and architecture with accompanying immorality of using tax payers money to finance the destruction of their art and culture. When contemporary artists promote and celebrate not only paedophilia but the murder of young children we are faced with very evil people. This negativity, this attempt to destroy a culture and art rather than improve it is quite simply evil. The cyclical view of history, The Wheel of Fortune suggests that we can get on the Wheel going up if we can start producing sacred and holy art and an architecture that derives from what went before not incongruous eruptions that disjuncture cultures and communities. An architecture that makes people feel as if they belong and not pushed out of their communities by such as ugly and drab buildings. There also is a need to re-assess our relationship to the environment and to animals. I also compare the destruction of drama from within. The Nihilist dramatists were shallow and destructive people who spread futility and unhappiness yet all round them they could see children laughing and playing. Cultural Marxist drama aimed to destroy our dramatic traditions from within and spread self-hatred while the writers were made rich by the new Establishment transferring tax payers money to them. I show the contrast of the the great Elizabethan tragedies which had an underling positivity that lead from barbarism to order.

  • - The Particularly Attractive Proposals Which Rule Our Brains
    af David Hamilton
    162,95 kr.

This quirky guide lists A to Z the many irrational ideas which lodge firmly in the human brain. Though many are familiar and notorious, they are here plucked from their niche locations and gathered, for the first time, under the catchy acronym 'PAP'. We yield to the attractive proposals of charismatic preachers and politicians, and we support the hunt for non-existent animals. Against all reason we trust financiers who offer ways to get rich quickly and we heed the confident therapists who tempt us to de-tox from mythical toxins. Most PAPs are harmless but some can lead us into danger. Unstoppable and always around, the author uncovers PAPs at the root of (nearly) everything. Our brain, he says, has a design fault: it is hard-wired to accept such PAPs, and offers evidence in an extensive bibliography .

David Hamilton has produced a collection of stories rooted in medieval forms but with contemporary concerns. While a poem is a subject it is also a journey and takes the reader to a higher state of consciousness as music does. People now like to pigeon hole everyone but Hamilton aims for versatility. A writers have their own styles and certain themes and ideas are foremost but each book is also meant to be original and have different features from the others. It is interesting to discuss whether Hamilton has created his own genre in that he writes books of poems which have essential features in common and can be called concept poems. The concept is thematic and crosses over individual poems.Storyteller is told by Hamilton at the Storytellers Festival and features stories in verse which take us through imaginative worlds where we encounter real life experiences and thus on to a higher state of awareness. In his preface to Lyrical Ballads Wordsworth talked of the need to create his own audience for his new form, but here we are drawn into the train of poetry and find common experience we share. This collection is slightly different in style and technique from the previous poetry books and incorporates songs and music which was stepping into the unknown It is developed from a primary idea in this case Storyteller which is inspiration, rather than rational development from a plan. Readers of historical fiction, fact, and especially Shakespeare fans, I'm sure, will enjoy this book. It's very educational. If published online, American readers will probably be the largest audience. I'm sure they'll enjoy the Englishness of it, especially well-educated academics for the exquisite use of language.
