Love, marriage, and sex with robots? Not in a million years? Maybe a whole lot sooner!A leading expert in artificial intelligence, David Levy argues that the entities we once deemed cold and mechanical will soon become the objects of real companionship and human desire. He shows how automata have evolved and how human interactions with technology have changed over the years. Levy explores many aspects of human relationships--the reasons we fall in love, why we form emotional attachments to animals and virtual pets, and why these same attachments could extend to love for robots. Levy also examines how society's ideas about what constitutes normal sex have changed--and will continue to change--as sexual technology becomes increasingly sophisticated. Shocking, eye-opening, provocative, and utterly convincing, Love and Sex with Robots is compelling reading for anyone with an open mind.
This book discusses the concept of robot consciousness and some other topics related to human-robot relationships¿the religious beliefs of robots, their ethics, their civil and legal rights, and our own ethical attitudes as they pertain to our interaction with robots.
According to world-famous astronomer David Levy, an eclipse of the sun "is a natural event with unnatural consequences. In fact, a total eclipse of the Sun has the power to rip through to the core of your being."Levy should know, having experienced the power of the vanishing Sun first as a child then in 1999 on a ship in the North Atlantic. It was that voyage to the darkness of the disappearing Sun, followed by a rendezvous with a brilliant display of the Northern Lights, that formed the inspiration for this book.Levy recounts the recorded history of eclipses, how they have been perceived by ancient cultures, how they can be predicted, and how best to view them. In addition, he explains the science of solar eclipses and what can be gained by studying them. In a manner accessible to all readers, Levy recounts the story of nature's most profound displays.

Hot on the heels of the first two volumes, "Kendoku: Extreme" shows that when it comes to mind-bendingly difficult logic/arithmetic puzzles, too much is never enough! Combining the logic of Sudoku with the math play of KenKen, Kendoku's rules are simple enough: The puzzles, either 6x6 or 9x9, look like Killer Sudoku games but in addition to numbers, players also must contend with math operators (+ - ) within "fences" on the puzzle. The total at the top left of the fenced area is arrived at by using the operator on all the numbers within the fenced area. The solution is a valid Sudoku solution. But unlike in Killer Sudoku, in Kendoku numbers are allowed to be repeated within a fenced area as long as the result doesn't break the rules for a valid Sudoku.
An account of the discovery of the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet and its spectacular collision with Jupiter, just 6 months later, written by one of the comet's discoverers.
