Several books are available that show great examples of the beautiful pottery made by Joseph Mrazek, but none explore the patterns, molds and marks that define this pottery. As a guide to this pottery, known as Peasant Art Pottery or PAI, collectors will be able to identify the three different styles of this pottery, and understand how the pottery matured. The more I collected, the more I was interested in the various patterns and had to know how many there were and had to have examples of each pattern. As with many collectibles, the more you study, the more you realize what you don't know. My 30 plus years of collecting and study have gone into this book and hopefully will help other collectors answer their questions about this beautiful pottery. As I found with my other book, "The Collector's Guide to Pottery Birds Made in Czechoslovakia", even as I was finishing this book, new examples were showing up on the Internet. No doubt many fine and rare examples are housed in collections all over the world. For the reasons explained in this book, a complete collection could never be put together but as all collectors know, the fun can be in the hunt and study. I hope this book will help collectors enjoy the search.
A look at the dark side of life in Herefordshire through the centuries. This book will fascinate anyone with an interest in the history of crime as well as those who want to know more about the history of this area.
I have been known to say, bluntly, that being a solo practitioner dentist past age 50 can be a 99% fatal condition. This book is about the 1%, the ones who found their way off the treadmill. I am familiar with most of the authors and their stories. They probably won't ever make any money from this book, especially compared with their other financial successes inside and outside their practices, but in their stories you will quickly see their mission - to help others who are in the same place as they were not very long ago. - Dr. Mike Abernathy

Herefordshire has had the mixed blessing of being a border county, predominately rural and far away from any metropolis. Lying between England and Wales, its past has been bloody, with raids and an unstable boundary. Borders are always porous and much Welsh influence can be found, especially in the west of the county. The county did not play a major part in the Industrial Revolution, which meant it became something of a backwater. Its unspoilt countryside provided a pleasant place to visit, but not such an easy place to make a living. Herefordshire can make the claim of being the birthplace of tourism as rich travellers, thwarted by the Napoleonic War from making the Grand Tour of Europe, found journeys down the beautiful River Wye some compensation. Now modernity is making changes to the county, with pressure for more houses, large-scale agriculture and the climate crisis all having their effect, but Herefordshire remains an intriguing and fascinating place. In 50 Gems of Herefordshire, local author David Phelps visits some of the favourite and lesser-known locations that reflect its heritage, culture and scenic splendour. From churches to castles and cider factory to cathedral, this is a county with much to discover and enjoy. Well-illustrated throughout, this book will appeal to residents and visitors alike.
This is the story of a Herefordshire gamekeeper, Horace Price, born in the last years of the reign of Queen Victoria, looking back on his eventful life and the many changes to the world that he has seen. He has lived and fought through two world wars and, unlike many, rather enjoyed the experience.
Santa Claus, Get Well Soon is a fully illustrated color children's book based on the classic Christmas song of the same name by recording artist, David Phelps. When he breaks his leg, Santa is told he can't fly. After getting help from the Easter Bunny, Santa uncovers a secret plot to take Christmas from him. A fun ride with a sense of humor and a feel-good ending. Kids of all ages will enjoy this orignial Christmas story bound to become a yearly read.
Explore Hereford's secret history through a fascinating selection of stories, facts and photographs.
As an avid collector for over twenty years, I have gathered these birds from all over the United States. This book contains all the information from study of the birds in my collection as well as pictures and information from friends. With a few exceptions, the birds have the Red Dime Mark "Made in Czechoslovakia". You will find as many molds for which I have pictures, showing the color and size varieties. Even though I have spent years in my search, I know there are others yet to be found as I was able to find a new bird even as I was finishing this book. I hope that collectors will send me information on other varieties.
An enchanting collection of Herefordshire folk tales retold by a professional storyteller. In association with the Society for Storytelling
Hereford has a darker side to its history, filled with strange - and sometimes unlikely - true tales. Was King Arthur a Hereford man? Was a Bishop of Hereford involved in the murder of a king by the most frightful method imaginable? Was a Hereford clerk the rightful King of England?
Worcestershire is a county of contrasts, with one face turned to the modern buzz of Birmingham and the other turned towards the quiet rural landscape of the West Country.
For the unwary visitor, Hereford appears to be a peaceful place. From the ghost of a verger who brought down the cathedral tower to the unquiet spirit of a careless chemist, the city has a rich history of spectral phenomena.
