December 1941....the newly formed Blackpool Regiment, the 137 (Army) Field Regiment RA (TA) had just arrived in Singapore. The Japanese were preparing to invade Malaya. The story of what happened to the Regiment is brief and tragic. Defeated in the battle of Jitra within days of landing, it was forced to retreat down the Malayan Peninsula, suffering catastrophic losses at the battle of Slim River, eventually making it back to Singapore to end up fighting in the grounds of Raffles Hotel, before surrendering on the orders of General Percival. There followed three-and-a-half years in various POW camps on the notorious Burma-Thai Railway of Death. At the time of the surrender, a flotilla of ships was trying to escape from Singapore. The author's uncle was on board one of those ships, unfortunately losing his life when HMS Yin Ping was sunk by a Japanese cruiser. The story of the sinking is related in some detail, along with some of the survivors' connection with the terrible massacres on Bangka Island. The Blackpool Regiment's story is told through the eyes of a serving officer and the story of the tragedy of HMS Yin Ping is a combination of the author's family knowledge and the extensive research undertaken by Michael Pether.

'The truth is so hard to tell, it sometimes needs fiction to make it plausible.' Award-winning investigative reporter David Taylor blends fact and fiction, suspense and satire into a vividly imagined novel in which an Oxford don uncovers a conspiracy of silence over the authorship of Shakespeare's plays. The ingenious codes and ciphers of a medieval German monk disappear after his death only for one of his number codes to surface in an Elizabethan spy's eye-witness account of what the Virgin Queen was doing behind closed doors. Centuries later, research fellow Freddie Brett deciphers this long-forgotten report in Lambeth Palace Library and finds himself following a trail that leads him to the very book that established the Stratford actor's credentials as a playwright and to a shadowy scientific brotherhood that treated drama as a form of mass communication. In unravelling this mystery Brett encounters not only academic opposition but an unseen enemy who will stop at nothing to possess the personal testimony of the man behind Shakespeare. As he races across Europe in search of such a prize, Brett's life is in danger. But he was to know the full story. Even if it kills him! The Queen's Cipher is an extraordinary book; a highly entertaining detective story that challenges conventional history.
A collection of articles, talks, and ideas It's safe to say the classical music industry has had a rough few years. The COVID-19 pandemic halted performances and interrupted every part of our daily lives. This shock to the system made us adapt, discover new ways of doing things, learn new skills, and find any way to keep the music playing and our organisations running. Over 2 years later, many people and organisations in the classical music world are now trying to "get back to normal" and return to the old way they used to do things. From them, this shock to the system was just a temporary blip in extraordinary circumstances and it's now time to go back to business as usual. But for some, they began to question the whole system. Why are audiences shrinking? Why haven't we made the most of digital opportunities? What is the concert going experience in the modern world? Is there a better way of doing things? The classical music industry faces many challenges. For it to survive, we need to start having conversations on what the future looks like and how we get there. This book exists to be a starting point for those conversations. It's for those who are curious, questioning the status quo, and wondering what the future of classical music may look like..
This book is not about the near death experience stories but about the people who died and were buried or bodies deposited in the morgue and yet were seen by people who know them. Seventeen chilling unbelievable but true stories are compiled in this book. Some were witnessed by me. They are real personal experiencee but not works of fiction. Others stories, by other people who are close relatives and friends. It would open our eyes to the fact that, there are many things that are happening in our world that we have no answers for. Although, some Bible scholars say it is the evil spirits that take up the body of those that are dead to deceive people, in a way to contradict the Bible. But what about in situations that the same habits, gestures, life history of the dead persons are what this living ghost possesses. Hebrews 9:27, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment". Going by this Bible verse, it is not expected of anyone to die twice. If so then, what happens at the end to Ghosts who are seeing walking around. Are they going to die again or vanish when their time expires. Only heavens can tell. As you read these true life accounts, you will agree with me that things are happening in our world that the knowledge of man or science has no answer for.
Alzheimer's disease and dementia is one of the worst kind of disease known. It takes away friends, family, dignity, and abilities from the individual slowly and without respect for the person. It is truly "The Insidious Disease."This book was written to provide information for those recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and dementia, and for those that provide care to victims of the disease. Additionally, there is a section for churches, Mininsters and Christian Counselors to aide them in ministering to both the one suffering with dementia and the caregiver.
It is said that ancient castles hold ancient secrets. Those mysteries, unrevealed, will over time become legend - stories told to children on winter nights beside a glowing fireside. Such a legend, aged for centuries in the hourglass of time, is stripped of belief to all but a few. Yet, all it takes is a few, even two, to listen and become curious.
THE PAST IS NEVER DEAD, IT ONLY HIDES.It all began a few miles from his home, but now he measures his travels with his comrades in light years, to places they were never meant to find.

A fun & happy picture book for kids age 3 or younger. The pictures are large, bright & colorful. The words are big and easy to read. A great first book that kids will love. The history of my book "Happy" began in 1999. My daughter Kara Taylor was born in January of that year. Kara had health problems from the minute she was born, and nearly died at birth. She was born with a heart defect, and within 24 hours of being born she had to have emergency heart surgery. She was born in Orlando, and had to be immediately flown by helicopter to Tampa to see a surgeon that specialized in the type of condition that she had. He successfully completed the surgery, but Kara would need 3 additional surgery over the next 2 years. Unfortunately, Kara didn't live for another 2 years. She passed away in May. The loss of a child stays with you forever, and Kara stayed with me. The grief knocked me down for years. In 2011 I decided I wanted to channel that loss into something positive. My book "Happy" is the result. When I made the decision to write it, it was created as if I were writing it for Kara. The words are the words I would want to read to her if I had the chance. The process of writing this book has helped me deal with the loss. My hope is that it will bring happiness to other children, and to the parents that read it with them.
From a fog shrouded London, to a North Country castle and on to Casablanca, the duo seem to be followed by the mist swirling around the doorway at 221B, obscuring the shadows they pursue.

Cosmological narratives like the creation story in the book of Genesis or the modern Big Bang are popularly understood to be descriptions of how the universe was created. However, cosmologies also say a great deal more. Indeed, the majority of cosmologies, ancient and modern, explore not simply how the world was made but how humans relate to their surrounding environment and the often thin line which separates humans from gods and animals. Combining approaches from classical studies, anthropology, and philosophy, this book studies three competing cosmologies of the early Greek world: Hesiod's Theogony; the Orphic Derveni Theogony; and Protagoras' creation myth in Plato's eponymous dialogue. Although all three cosmologies are part of a single mythic tradition and feature a number of similar events and characters, Olaf Almqvist argues they offer very different answers to an ongoing debate on what it is to be human. Engaging closely with the ontological turn in anthropology and in particular with the work of Philippe Descola, this book outlines three key sets of ontological assumptions - analogism, pantheism, and naturalism - found in early Greek literature and explores how these competing ontological assumptions result in contrasting attitudes to rituals such as prayer and sacrifice.
