First published in 1989, Chronicles of Darkness is about images of Africa seen through the eyes of writers, visitors, residents, and native-born. They range from Joseph Conrad and Olive Schreiner, through Laurens van der Post, Karen Blixen and Evelyn Waugh, to more recent writers like Nadine Gordimer, Andre Brink and J.M. Coetzee.Such writers have frequently been faced with feelings of alienation, marginality, exile, self-consciousness, and egoism. It is only in this sense- that the eyes which see are shadowed and troubled- that Africa is a 'dark continent' and that these writings are 'chronicles of darkness'. In some cases, Africa, even if merely a backdrop painted in crude and garish colors, becomes a way of revealing or admitting something about 'Europe' which might be concealed when a writer performs in a different theatre. This is an interesting read for scholars and researchers of English literature and African studies.

It's a MYSTERY. The boy that tells this story as it happens has a few problems, one that starts out as an inconvenience but quickly becomes much more. His upcoming twelfth birth becomes meaningless as questions arise that are much more important. Is his name Bobby or Brian? Who are his real parents? Is he schizophrenic or is he suffering from a head injury? About the only thing he is certain of, is that he must find those solutions on his own with the unwitting help of others.

This books' original concept was born out of working with inner city youths in the northern Virginia area. Many of these children gathered at a local recreation center during the weekdays after school, others were visited in a local Juvenile detention center. You will hear questions that were asked in their own words, albeit nearly 40 years ago. Their actual names were not used and will remain anonymous. Some of these children have met untimely deaths, some have been imprisoned and could still be serving sentences. Some have overcome the odds of growing up in a community beset by drugs, alcohol and violence as well as absentee Fathers and or Mothers. Nonetheless they were hungry for answers to life's questions and wanted to know, who is this GOD of the Bible who loves them. Hello, there is not much to tell about me, I have been married to my beautiful wife Wilma for 37 years and we are tremendously blessed of God. We hope that God will use this book to inspire and encourage children all over the world. Love, David & Wilma
