  • - The Early Adventures Volume I

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: The Early AdventuresThere is a persistent and incorrect idea, reinforced by countless film misrepresentations, that Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were always staid and dull British chaps of middle years (or older), with Holmes a spry, cranky, and impatient eccentric, and Watson a white-haired and portly Boobus Brittanicus, a la Nigel Bruce. Students of the true and Canonical Sherlock Holmes know this to be a falsehood. When we first meet them on January 1st, 1881, Holmes is still 26 years old (although he will turn 27 in just a few days), and Watson, already a wounded war veteran, is only 28. During the three year period between early 1881 and late 1883, through all of the early adventures which cemented their lifelong friendship, Holmes was still in his twenties, with Watson just a little over a year older. This idea is difficult for many to accept as they cling to the image of Our Heroes as senior citizens. This volume, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson: The Early Adventures, is an amazing collection of some of Holmes and Watson's fascinating cases that occurred during those first three years in Baker Street, when Holmes was creating his unique profession of consulting detective, while Watson was still recovering from the war wounds that he'd received in Afghanistan and slowly returning to the business of being a civilian doctor. Included are 31 new stories in three companion volumes by some of today's best Sherlockian pasticheurs, as well as an excerpt from the beginning of A Study in Scarlet, detailing the initial meeting of Holmes and Watson in early 1881, as well as possibly the most famous Canonical tale, "The Speckled Band" (occurring in April 1883) and "The Resident Patient", with its original restored opening text, as it first appeared in The Strand magazine, indicating that this adventure occurred toward the end of the first year of Holmes and Watson's residency at 221b Baker Street.Join us as we climb the seventeen steps to Our Heroes' sitting room. You'll find that they haven't lived there quite as long in these early days, and possibly they aren't as quite as old as you might have pictured them . . . .VOLUME IA Study in Scarlet (An Excerpt) - Sir Arthur Conan DoyleThe Two Bullets - David Marcum The Adventure of the Persistent Pugilist - Thomas A Burns, Jr.Brother's Keeper - Robert PerretBad Blood at Barts - Harry DeMaio The Adventure of the Villainous Victim - Chris Chan The Cable Street Mummy - Paula Hammond The Piccadilly Poisoner - Roger Riccard The Adventure of the Modest Inspectors - Derrick Belanger The Case of the Melancholic Widow - Deanna Baran The Inside Men - M.J.H. 123,95 kr.

London 1901. The city is in the grip of 'Monkey Man Mania'. Intrepid explorer, Drake Patterson has caused a media storm following his astonishing discovery of a frozen ancient man in the remote Himalayan mountains. This 'Primal Man' has been triumphantly transported back to England as proof of the 'missing link' in evolutionary theory. The upcoming auction of the specimen causes a stir amongst academics and the board of the British Museum. Whilst many are excited about bidding for this 'yeti', or 'mi-go', there are some with a more sceptical viewpoint. The story of the find just doesn't add up - neither does the fact that no one is prepared to insure the beast. Enter the great detective Sherlock Holmes and his loyal friend Dr Watson. Sherlock is in no doubt about the Primal Man's authenticity and takes great pleasure in enlisting the assistance of his cousin, Professor Ellington Dynamo to prove the case. The fraud investigation takes a dark turn when it becomes one of murder, and Sherlock's powers of deduction and skill are once again put to the test in this exciting adventure. Full of the skulduggery and surprises you would expect from a Sherlock story, and with the fearsome Professor Dynamo and his delightful inventions to boot, The Adventure of the Primal Man will not fail to please. 'One thing is certain - nothing is as it seems, and Sherlock Holmes is the man to solve the case.' David Marcum, author of The Papers of Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes and A Quantity of Debt, and Sherlock Holmes - Tangled Skeins 'Noted Sherlock Holmes author, Derrick Belanger, has outdone himself again. ... a creative tour de force full of mystery, murder, bullet-less guns and electric super-cars shaped like torpedoes.' GC Rosenquist, author of Sherlock Holmes: The Pearl of Death and Other Early Stories 'This excellent read from Derrick Belanger is sure to delight and enthral, not only fans of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, but will also excite and entertain the enthusiasts of general science fiction and Steampunk.' Chuck Davis, author of Phantoms of the Skies, and the Sherlock Holmes short story "The Adventure of the White Bird" in The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories. 'Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson and Professor Dynamo are together in one thrilling adventure!' Luke Kuhns, author of Sherlock Holmes and The Scarlet Thread of Murder and The Untold Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

  • - The Cases of Sherlock Holmes & Solar Pons 1

In 1928, a nineteen-year-old Wisconsin college student named August Derleth (1909-1971) audaciously wrote to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, asking if there would be any more Sherlock Holmes stories. The response from Dr. Watson's Literary Agent was a terse "No." Then, Derleth ambitiously countered: Could he write some? The reply? Another "No."Derleth, unsatisfied with that answer, resolved to produce Sherlockian-style stories of his own. Flipping ahead on his calendar, he famously wrote on an upcoming date, In Re: Sherlock Holmes. When that date arrived, he duly sat down and recorded "The Adventure of the Black Narcissus" - but not about Holmes. Rather, he transcribed (from the notes of Dr. Lyndon Parker) the first narrative introducing the world to Solar Pons - "The Sherlock Holmes of Praed Street".The world knows of Sherlock Holmes. For those who haven't yet been lucky enough to yet meet Mr. Pons, one should know that he is a Great Detective in the Holmesian Mold: He models himself after Holmes, wearing the expected deerstalker and Inverness. He investigates using ratiocination, observation, and deduction. His adventures, set in the 1920's and 1930's, are transcribed by his friend, Dr. Parker. He lives in London, working closely with Scotland Yard, and he helps to fill the vacuum left when Sherlock Holmes retired to Sussex.Throughout the Pontine Canon, there are references to Sherlock Holmes. For long decades, Pons fans and scholars have speculated on the connection between the two. Now, after all this time - nearly one-hundred years since the last Canonical Holmes story was published and Derleth recorded the first Pons tale - Belanger Books proudly presents the stories that provide answers - The Meeting of the Minds . . . . These companion volumes contain eighteen new adventures in two companion volumes by some of today's best Holmesian and Ponsian authors. Join us again at 7B Praed Street, where The Game is Afoot!

  • - The Thoughts and Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes's Elder Brother, 1880-1888
    af Derrick Belanger
    158,95 kr.

"If Samuel Pepys could fill nine years' worth of journals with tales of arguments with his wife, visits to the theatres, fire and plague, then I am fairly confident I should be able to achieve a similar feat - with the exception of the plague, that is." Thus begins Mycroft Holmes's valiant, if irregular, attempt to chronicle his doings. Rediscovered in 1976 and now fully translated from an obscure code, Mycroft's diaries reveal that a brother's lot is not always a happy one, especially when that brother happens to be London's only consulting detective. In this humorous look at the world of Sherlock Holmes through Mycroft's eyes, between avoiding amorous cleaning ladies and eccentric family members, appeasing hopeless artists and budding novelists, keeping the peace at the Diogenes and minding doting dogs, one question always remains: will Sherlock ever get a proper job?Devon-based journalist and lecturer, S.F. Bennett has written for the Baker Street Journal and the Journal of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London, amongst others. This is the author's first novel.
