The story follows the life of a young girl named Claudia, who is chosen to become a Vestal Virgin, a priestess of the goddess Vesta. Claudia is reluctant to take on this role, as it requires her to remain celibate for thirty years and devote herself entirely to the service of the goddess. However, she has no choice but to accept the position, as it is considered a great honor and failure to do so would bring shame to her family. As Claudia begins her training and takes on her duties as a Vestal Virgin, she becomes embroiled in a web of political intrigue and power struggles. She discovers that the Vestal Virgins hold a great deal of influence over the Roman government, and that there are those who would use this power for their own gain. Claudia must navigate these dangerous waters while also struggling to maintain her own sense of identity and purpose.Throughout the novel, White paints a vivid picture of life in ancient Rome, from the bustling streets and colorful markets to the grand temples and palaces of the ruling elite. He also explores themes of duty, sacrifice, and the struggle for power that are as relevant today as they were in ancient times.Overall, The Unwilling Vestal is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that will appeal to fans of historical fiction and anyone interested in the fascinating world of ancient Rome. That day he was returning from an inspection amid a large and gorgeous retinue. Brinnaria had a blurred vision of splendid uniforms and dazzling accoutrements.
