A second collection of poems by Elizabeth Anne Jones. Elizabeth, when working on her Masters degree at the University of Hawaii, was fortunate to have, James Wright, John Logan, and Leon Edel as professors. She majored in Shakespeare, Early 17th Century Poetry, and in Poetry. It was a wonderful climate for poets. Friends have described her poetry as crystal-like. Others say that it is a soft and delicate as falling rain, but strong, and true. She has included more poems that children might like, although it is not a book of children's poems. Like many other poets, she sees and writes about things that many people do not see, especially in nature. Her poems are full of music and wisdom. They are far-seeing.

The elegance of Elizabeth Anne Jones' poems can be found in such lines as: "One feels beauty, and knows/ when one is near a rose--/ but wind moves petals/ and tugs at leaves in a trembling tree./ It moves me." Or in her poem about old goats: "their small hooves tapping/ spritely songs of clippy-clapping." There are many voices in her poetry like the village women of Punjab who "sit/ kerchiefs of faded scraps/ tied across their lower faces/ to ward off evil germs--" And finally, in her poem, "The Dark," she writes: "A lute sings softly/ where I live/ a table, some fruit, a chair." She invites us into her poems. "Please come inside." Her poems have been published in various periodicals, books of poetry, and orally on audio CD's. They have also won many prizes. She became a serious poet in 1978 while she was working on her Masters Degree in poetry, at the University of Hawaii, where she studied under such well-known poets as James Wright who won a Pulitzer Prize for his Collected Works, and John Logan. She felt privileged to have had a course in research with Leon Edel, whose biography of Henry James won him a Pulitzer Prize. (He told us that if we ever published a book, to mention him, because it would give the book more clout.) Then, there was Elizabeth McCutcheon, a gifted teacher, whose courses in early 17th century poetry were inspired, and inspiring. We never got done reading her handouts. It was a wonderful climate for poets. And as a gardener, Anne would say that the potting soil was of the highest order.

Written for both lay readers and practitioners, Awaken to Healing Fragrance is divided into three parts structured around the past, present, and future of aromatherapy. The book begins with profiles of prominent female historical figures—from Cleopatra to Elizabeth I—known to have used essential oils for mind, body, and spiritual health. Part two explains the value of aromatherapy today: modern methods for using essential oils—from relaxation practices like massage and facials to treating common conditions like PMS, stress, and a sore throat—and describes how and why they work. Also featured are case studies, research on anti-infectious qualities of the oils, and a section on psychoneuroimmunology that shows how essential oils can help restore the mind-body-spirit connection and create balance. Awaken to Healing Fragrance concludes by exploring the future of essential oil therapy and how it can be integrated into traditional medical systems. Jones discusses energetic medicine, creating aromatic gardens, and establishing integrative medicine clinics where doctors trained in Western medicine would collaborate with alternative therapists such as acupuncturists, nutritionists, and aromatherapists to bring a new consciousness and sense of well-being to healthcare.
