The desire for great looking skin is not uncommon. Our skin is akin to our "book cover" and is what people gauge our appearance on, so it is easy to see why so many people are constantly looking for the answer to maintaining healthy, glowing and youthful-looking skin. Skin care companies have made millions off these insecurities, promising youth in a bottle, often to the disappointment of consumers. While not all of these products are shams, the majority do not live up to their promises. The Smart & Easy Guide to Skin Care provides an in-depth understanding of the basics and importance of proper skin care. It also provides detailed tips and hints on how to keep skin healthy, glowing and firm, even as we age. This helps to keep our self-esteem up and make us confident in our outward appearance. We have often heard that prevention is the best medicine and this applies to skin care as well. The guide recommends a regular skin care routine that includes the following: Cleansing Exfoliation Moisturizing Sun protection It is advised to cleanse the skin before proceeding with further care. Properly cleansed skin can then be more effectively exfoliated or moisturized. Moisturizing the skin without first cleansing it can, for example, clog pores and leave one susceptible to an acne outbreak. The guide also urges care be used in exfoliation. It is entirely possible to overdo it, which can lead to irritated, inflamed or even damaged skin. The guide goes on to explain some of the modern day problems associated with skin care, such as the added strain on the skin by way of environmental pollutants. It describes the commonly available basic skin care products, their uses and how they are used most effectively. It also discusses the factors that need to be considered when determining which skin care products are most ideal, such as skin tone and type. The Smart & Easy Guide to Skin Care lays out a simple and highly effective basic skin care strategy that includes the following advice: Stay hydrated Stay moisturized Avoid excessive wind Don't forget to cleanse Be gentle on the skin Avoid harsh chemicals Always remember sun protection Avoid stress Eat healthy and exercise Get adequate sleep The guide describes the basics of common skin conditions, such as dry skin, acne and sun or age spots and the best strategies for treating and dealing with these conditions without damaging or further damaging the skin. There are a variety of different skin types, such as oily, dry or sensitive skin and each skin type has slightly different needs. The guide outlines how best to care for each skin type safely and effectively. The guide also notes that different parts of the body (such as the face or legs) need to be treated differently. For example, certain areas of the body, such as the legs, tend to be drier and may require a more heavy duty moisturizer. With each passing year, there are more natural, herbal and organic skin care products on the market and the guide advocated the use of these products as they tend to be more gentle on skin, as they do not contain harsh chemicals or additives. While some of these products work wonderfully, they do tend to cost more and for some, they do not work as well as traditional skin care products. It should be noted that just because something is labeled "natural" or "organic," it does not necessarily mean it is a superior product. Healthy, youthful and glowing skin is highly coveted by many people and has resulted in the lucrative anti-aging and preventative skin care industry. Keeping skin healthy is not all about knowing which creams to apply. The Smart & Easy Guide to Skin Care provides easy to understand advice on how to keep skin healthy, youthful and smooth.

Pimples are a common part of everyday life for teenagers and adults, men and women, alike. However, while for many, the occasional pimple is just a small irritation, for some, acne is a real problem. Acne refers to excessive pimples. Though it is often seen as a problem most associated with teenagers, acne effects a variety of different populations for different reasons. Acne can be unsightly and even painful, and a whole host of myths surround this common, but troublesome skin issue. The Smart & Easy Guide to Acne Treatments provides a well rounded explanation of what acne is and what causes it. The guide also seeks to dispel many of the common myths surrounding this common skin condition. Finally, it provides a brief overview on the different types of treatment options available to those who suffer from acne. Acne is a skin condition that involves the blocking of pores which leads to the proliferation of bacteria within the pore. It is at this point that the skin begins to swell and a pimple forms. Due to many of the physical and biological changes associated with puberty, acne is most commonly seen in teenagers, but can effect adults and even young children and babies. While not all the causes of acne are completely understood, the guide notes the following as the most common causes of acne: Excessive amounts of sebum Changes in testosterone levels Poor diet and health The use of certain medications Hormonal fluctuations due to menstrual cycles and pregnancy Hereditary factors The guide also notes that there are many myths that surround acne. The following are commonly believed causes of acne, that are, in fact, actually myths and completely untrue. Chocolate causes acne Sex causes acne Acne is unavoidable Poor personal hygiene completely explains acne Popping pimples is a good thing Acne only effects teens Most people think that a pimple is a pimple, but in fact, there are actually a number of different kinds of acne. The Smart & Easy Guide to Acne Treatments briefly details the differences between types of acne, how the acne presents itself and what areas of the body are most often effected by the different forms of acne. There are a huge number of different treatment options for those who suffer from acne. The guide briefly discusses the most common home remedies, natural remedies, over-the-counter topical remedies, as well as prescription-only remedies that are often used to treat acne. For those with mild acne, many over-the-counter topical treatments work just fine. As these contain active ingredients that may dry the skin out, it is recommended to try a few different brands to determine what works best for a specific skin condition. Prescription treatments for acne are generally only for those who suffer from severe acne and often include antibiotic or oral steroid treatment. The guide also goes over some of the basic options for those who suffer from scarring from earlier acne problems. There are a variety of creams, as well as things like laser treatment that have proven effective in reducing or eliminating the appearance of scarring caused by acne. Acne can also be an issue for babies and children and, as the guide notes, this must be treated in a different manner than acne in adults. The guide provides a brief overview of acne in babies and children, as well as how to safely and effectively treat it. Acne may be a common skin condition, but that does not make it any less troublesome. It is unsightly and can be detrimental to self esteem and without treatment, it can cause permanent damage and scarring to the skin. The Smart & Easy Guide to Acne Treatments, provides simple explanations about acne, its causes and how to effectively treat it with one of the many treatment options. The guide also helps to shed light on the myths that abound about acne.

A practical plan for the millions of people in their fifties and sixties who find themselves out of work, unable to find a job, and financially incapable of retiring, Elizabeth White shows how to get past any blame or shame, overcome denial, and find a path to a new normal.Elizabeth White has an impressive resume, which includes advanced degrees from Harvard and Johns Hopkins and a distinguished employment history. She started a business that failed and then tried to reenter the work force in her mid-fifties, only to learn that there is little demand for workers her age. For a while Elizabeth lived in denial, but then had to adjust to her new reality, shedding the gym membership, getting a roommate, forgoing restaurant meals, and so on. She soon learned she wasn’t alone: there are millions of Americans in her predicament and worse, exhausted from trying to survive and overcome every day. In 55, Underemployed, and Faking Normal, Elizabeth invites you to look beyond your immediate circumstances to what is possible in the new normal of financial insecurity. You’re in your fifties and sixties, and may have saved nothing or not nearly enough to retire. It’s too late for blame or shame—and it wouldn’t help anyway. What you want to know is what you can do now to have a shot at a decent retirement. “This relevant and well-researched book will appeal not only to those 55 plus, but to the generation coming right behind them who may face similar issues” (Booklist, starred review). 55, Underemployed, and Faking Normal is a must-have for anyone whose income has suddenly diminished or even disappeared. “Providing practical solutions with a focus on retirement and maximizing savings, White maintains authority with a realistic, empathetic tone throughout. This deeply useful work will resonate with aging readers of all income levels and situations” (Publishers Weekly). If you’re ready to get serious about feeling good again, this book is for you.

Walking in Wonder blends patristic Orthodox teaching with practical suggestions for parents, resulting in a book that is not only inspirational but full of common sense. Elizabeth White draws from her extensive experience as an educator, parent, and faithful Orthodox Christian to outline not only what the virtues are, but how their development can be encouraged in the lives of children. Each chapter ends with a list of practical ideas any parent might try to help cultivate character qualities such as attentiveness and silence. • - Late Quaternary foragers on an arid coastline
af Elizabeth White, Peter Veth, Alan Chappell, mfl.
    413,95 kr.

The Montebello Islands are a cluster of small, low relief land masses, comprised of ancient limestone, with skeletal soils, sparse vegetation and shifting sand bodies. They lie some 80 km from the coastline, representing far flung 'high points' on the once extensive arid coastal plains of north-west Australia. Barrow Island lies between the mainland and the islands. More famous as the first nuclear testing site used by the British in the 1950s and the location of the first known shipwreck off the Australian coast, (the Tryal in 1622), the Montebello Islands represent a unique configuration of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. This paper reports on archaeological analysis carried out on assemblages recovered from two stratified cave sites on Campbell Island in the Montebello group in northwest Australia. These sites provide unique insights into human responses to the drowning of the extensive arid plains of north-west Australia following the Last Glacial Maximum. Rich faunal assemblages have been recovered which date to the period 30,000-7000 BP as the local environmental context changed in response to the post-glacial marine transgression. Field surveys and excavations were carried out over two field seasons between 1992-4 and involved a team of archaeologists, field assistants and support crew.Written by Peter Veth, Ken Aplin, Lynley Wallis, Tiina Manne, Tim Pulsford, Elizabeth White and Alan Chappell
