After having my first child (my beautiful baby girl) at the height of the coronavirus outbreak, I couldn't help but wonder how I would explain this difficult time in history to my daughter one day. No doubt she, along with all the other children born in the year 2020 will forever be referred to as the 'corona generation'. Also, working as a family medicine physician I found myself meeting many concerned parents struggling to not only explain the pandemic to their children, but also help them gain a more optimistic perspective, which further inspired me to write this book. The story is set in the future, a few years after the coronavirus outbreak when a young girl born in the time of corona asks her mother to explain what the world was like when she was born. The mother subsequently, walks through the start of the pandemic and the consequences associated with it. Listening in on the story too is their curious cat 'Ted', who can't help but tag along and learn from the story as well. The main focus of this book is to highlight all the positives we stood to gain during this time. It takes a look at different families from around the world and how they coped with the outbreak, highlighting essentially how they made the most of their time during quarantine and more importantly what they learned from it. I am also very happy to include a personalized section at the end of the book, titled " Share Your Story With Ted" where each child gets the chance to share their story with Ted the Cat on what they did during the outbreak. There are a couple of pages for them to write all the things they did during quarantine, what they learned to be grateful for and even a section for them to be creative and draw their hopes for the future. It also includes a fun seek-and-find picture at the end for the child to enjoy. I wrote this book to shed some positive light during this difficult time, keeping my own daughter in mind, I wanted children to truly focus on making the most of a difficult situation. That is why it was important for me to include the personalized section, so that each child can share their story and feel heard. To know that their journey and what they learned matters. I hope that with providing them a space to share their story, it will serve as a reminder that with every hardship there comes a positive lesson, an opportunity to grow and learn and ultimately become a better person.
