  • - Dramatic Poems Between A Clergy and His Motorcycle

'The Unfaithful Bride' is a dramatic poem that encapsulates the palpable indifference between pastor and his bride. It is imbued on the unfaithfulness of the rider's bride, who has never meant good for her lord. As a result, the poem is a metaphysical piece of art wherein the poet uses a mechanical object to articulate the phenomenon of nuptial indifferences between a couple. There is no direct relationship between a motorcycle and a bride, but through the use of metaphors, the poet illustrates a clear link between the two seemingly unrelated ideas. To his credit, the poet Fortune Nwaiwu, is able to achieve this very well.

The Weeping Voice is a timeless story of ambition, family, and economic struggle. The play offers wonderful insights, with a clear purpose, restlessly exploring the implications of difficult choices we must make about our education and our future. -- Erin McKnight UK I am most impressed with Fortune Nwaiwu's dialogue skills and creation of the near-dystopian society. I'm confident that he's a great stage play here, with a poignant message, which is definitely needed in these turbulent, modern times. --- James L. UK.

The Devil in the Cathedral: A Shadow of Death is a metaphor of lamentation that bemoans the failure of a much looked-up-to leader and that of the led who fail to keep a code of Ten Commandments. This leader Dr. EJANG, who emerges with the rare opportunity which providence gives the minority, squanders it leaving his people not any better than he met them. The play is then a political satire just as it uses the Christian religious parlance to periscope the acts of the individual and the society at large as the cathedral. The irony is that whereas it is Christians that should worship in the cathedral, the people are possessed by the devil himself who rules over their hearts and therefore calls the shots that happen in the universe of discourse of the play to wit, bloodletting, violence, rape, prostitution, political intrigues, betrayal and vendetta. The repercussion is that ¿RABIA, the Niger Delta which should have been benefitted by the facts that it is an oil-producing political sub zone and that it produced the president, is worse off. Events in the play show that neither fact is a point of advantage to the ¿RABIANS. Dr. Godwin UshieDepartment of English Language, Uni-Cal Nigeria.

To his credit, the poet Fortune Nwaiwu, is able to achieve this very well. The poet is believed to have been a fan or an avid reader of George Herbert¿s poems, especially that of his ¿Pulley¿.In this collection of poems, the poet attempts to convey the pain and suffering some pastors undergo during the course of their ministerial careers. The poet-persona laments on the manner in which his motorcycle has disgraced and disillusioned him before the eyes of men.

This study ¿Code Mixing and Code Switching Among Etche-English Bilinguals¿ was set to find out the use of code mixing and code switching in both formal and informal settings of Etche-English bilinguals using two domains: education and religion. It examined the types of code mixing/switching, the syntactic positions of code mixing, the probable reasons and the impacts of code mixing and code switching on the use of English among Etche bilinguals. The study was based on the subjects¿ performance on the use of code. The researcher collected data from the utterances of the subjects from the sampled schools and churches through observations and these were analysed using Hymes¿ (1974) theory of communicative competence as the theoretical frame work and Halliday¿s (1961) theory of systemic grammar to account for the occurrences of code mixing. Our findings showed that in formal settings, the bilinguals tended to code mix Etche more frequently but code switch to English more frequently than Etche in informal settings. This was attributed to the setting of discourse and probably, there were many expressions in English that are familiar to the bilinguals which they could use in their sentenc
