A Call to Contemplation is the third in a series of poetry collections by Franki deMerle. Ripples on the Surface, Child of the Universe, and this new collection together include fifty years of work and over 750 poems. The author's poetry has been compared to that of Emily Dickinson, but in expression and quality, deMerle may have surpassed Dickinson.

Ripples On the Surface is a collection of poems written from 1969 to 2006 (not compiled in the order they were written) expressing the personal feelings, dreams, and perceptions of the author.

As a child, Sand remembered living before. She remembered her death in Dachau, but she didn't have a name for her past life identity until a former friend claimed it as her own. She is haunted by her past death and recurring premonition of another death to come as she grows up in Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, and early US spaceflight. Her past life memories put her in conflict with the religious beliefs of mainstream society. The convergence of conflicting cultures results in race riots at the high school Sand attends. Sand's friend, Chrissie, remembers writing poetry in 19th century Amherst, Massachusetts, as Emily Dickinson. After Sand graduates from college and goes to work for a local newspaper, her childhood premonition of another death comes true. Meanwhile, a package that she has kept a secret suddenly resurfaces, but what does it mean? She discovers that her next door neighbor, a rising rock star, is a bigamist. Sand's story is told by Brenda Campbell, who is the daughter of the bigamist rock star, through the symbolism of her Tarot cards. Deception Past is a story of betrayal and forgiveness.

Franki deMerle's latest poetry book Child of the Universe could have been written by Emily Dickinson. This vast collection of verse is a wonderfully written edition to Ms. deMerle's other books. "We, like all living creatures, are all children of the Universe, and like many, I am a child of the verse."

An Unconditional MomentThis is my fourth (and who knows? maybe my last) collection of poems. My three previous collections are Ripples on the Surface, Child of the Universe, and A Call to Contemplation. Ripples on the Surface includes poems starting when I was fifteen years old. Of the latter three collections, a large number of them were written in Portland, Oregon's, Japanese Gardens, because I've always found it peaceful and inspirational.I never title my poems; that's why they are numbered. The first line of each poem is listed in the back of the book with its number. This collection is written about feelings and insights from the perspective of age and experience. Some poems may show occasional confusion that comes with age.I don't group my poems together by topic, because I feel that would be too tedious to the reader, and because my poems are how I feel at the time of writing. Feelings are all tied together anyway. It's the reader's choice how to read my poetry. If read in order, the poems reveal more about the author (should the reader choose to do so). A poem simply has to be experienced, so there's really not much more I can say. What I have to say is already in the poetry.
