Extrait: Le 1er janvier 1782., le baron François-Armand de Luizzi était assis au coin du feu, dans son château de Ronquerolles. Quoique je n'aie pas vu ce château depuis vingt ans, je me le rappelle parfaitement. Contre l'ordinaire des châteaux féodaux, il était situé au fond d'une vallée; il consistait alors en quatre tours liées ensemble par quatre corps de bâtiments; les tours et les bâtiments étaient surmontés de toits aigus en ardoises, chose rare dans les Pyrénées. Ainsi le château vu du haut des collines qui l'entouraient paraissait plutôt une habitation du seizième ou du dix-septième siècle qu'une forteresse de l'an 1327, époque à laquelle il avait été bâti. Dans mon enfance, j'ai souvent visité l'intérieur de ce château, et je me souviens que j'admirais surtout les larges dalles dont étaient pavés les greniers où nous jouions. Ces dalles, qui faisaient honte aux misérables carreaux de ma maison, avaient défendu les plates-formes de Ronquerolles quand c'était un château fort; plus tard on les avait recouvertes de toits pointus comme ceux qu'on voit sur la porte de Vincennes, mais sans toucher à la construction primitive.
