Maintaining cheerfulness in the midst of a gloomy task, fraught with immeasurable responsibility, is no small feat; and yet what is needed more than cheerfulness? Nothing succeeds if prankishness has no part in it. Excess strength alone is the proof of strength. A revaluation of all values: this question mark, so black, so huge that it casts a shadow over the man who puts it down - such a destiny of a task compels one to run into the sunlight at every opportunity to shake off a heavy, all-too-heavy seriousness. Every means is proper to do this; every "case" is a case of luck. Especially, war. War has always been the great wisdom of all spirits who have become too introspective, too profound; even in a wound there is the power to heal.

Friedrich Nietzsche was a very influential German philosopher whose works have had a major impact on modern Western philosophy. Nietzsche wrote on a great variety of subjects including religion, good vs. evil, science, history, and others. Many of Nietzsche's books are still widely read today, especially Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Beyond Good and Evil, and The Antichrist. Ecce Homo, published in 1888, is Nietzsche's classic autobiography which provides great insight into the philosopher's life and works.
In The Antichrist, Nietzsche denounces Christianity as a ethical-moral value system inherited by a civilization with decadent values in the modern times.

We are unknown, we knowers, ourselves to ourselves: this has its own good reason. We have never searched for ourselves-how should it then come to pass, that we should ever find ourselves? Rightly has it been said: "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Our treasure is there, where stand the hives of our knowledge. It is to those hives that we are always striving; as born creatures of flight, and as the honey-gatherers of the spirit, we care really in our hearts only for one thing-to bring something "home to the hive!"
