Suki, an island, and Torvi, the sea, have a problem at a time when the sun, land, and sea can speak to one another. Over the years it became warmer and warmer, and there were more storms and rain. The wind blew harder and harder, and Torvi became angry and his waves rose higher and higher. He began taking sand from Suki's beaches, and they began fighting. Finally, Suki tells Torvi not to be angry at her, because the wind makes his waves rise so high, and she will go talk to the wind. But the wind can't help because no trees hold him back. So Suki reaches out to the sun and wind for help in getting the trees to come. Will Suki find a way to get the trees? If they come, will that calm Torvi down? Will Suki and Torvi ever be able to live in peace. This book tells their story, in a parable about the land, sea, and forces of nature.

THE TRUTH ABOUT LYING is a book about how and why people lie, how we respond when others lie to us, how to tell when someone is lying, and what to do about it. The book includes a questionnaire to determine your own Lie-Q score: how much you lie. As the book illustrates, we lie for all kinds of reasons - to protect ourselves, gain an advantage, avoid punishment, protect other's feelings, escape blame, or get out of something we don't want to do. Though philosophers, religious leaders, teachers, and parents tell us lying is morally wrong - at some time, everyone does it. And in the last decade, we have seen more and more examples of lying in the daily news.THE TRUTH ABOUT LYING provides a broad overview of the subject in a book that has become a classic. It begins with an overview of the pervasiveness of lying today and throughout history. Then, it discusses the range of lies, reasons people lie, and different types of lies in different situations, using many stories from ordinary, respectable people to illustrate. The concluding chapters discuss how readers can deal with lying in their own lives.GINI GRAHAM SCOTT, PhD is a writer, publisher, and film producer, who has published over 200 books, 50 for traditional publishers and 150 for her own company Changemakers Publishing, specializing in books on self-help, popular business, and social issues. The following three tales are adapted from stories told by the peasants in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. They are drawn from some books I found in shops when I visited the former U.S.S.R. in 1988 as part of a citizen diplomacy group. I was intrigued by these folktales, since my paternal grandmother lived for some time in Odessa in the Ukraine. Also, I found these stories share a common theme --the poor peasant is able to succeed despite obstacles against an unfair ruler. He does so by being wise and generous, and having a strong desire to help and protect his family. Generally, the rich merchant or powerful ruler is foiled by his own greed and stupidity. The following stories come from the Ukraine, Latvia, and Turkmen. These are three of my favorite stories.
The following three tales are adapted from stories told by the American Indians. They are: - The Story of Coyote, Buffalo, and the Rock, told by the Sioux, a tribe from the Northwest, where they once formed the Great Sioux Nation, in the area that later became the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Montana, and Wyoming.- How Coyote Became Clever, told by the Karok, a tribe from Northwestern California, located along the Klamath River.- How Coyote Brought Winter into the World, told by the Zuni Indians, one of the pueblo peoples, who have lived in villages in the area of New Mexico. While these Indian tribes come from very different areas, their coyote stories are similar in the way Coyote has friends with other animals, participates with them on adventures, and screws things up no matter what he does.

It's based on learning about yourself and others by knowing what type of dog you like most or are most like, and calling on different types of dogs for different types of help-such as Guide Dogs for advice, Power Dogs to gain power, and Rescue Dogs for even more help. While this system can be an amusing and whimsical way to think about yourself and others, it offers psychological insights and practical advice on interpersonal relationships.
