Every victory comes at a cost. The trail has gone cold. For months now, Emery Hazard and John-Henry Somerset have been trying to find something-anything-that might help them uncover the truth about the criminal organization operating out of the Cottonmouth Club. But every lead has turned out to be a dead end, and every step forward has cost them two steps back.Until, one night, John-Henry is arrested for a terrible crime. As their friends gather again in Wahredua, Emery and John-Henry must rush to prove John-Henry's innocence. The falsified evidence used to implicate him provides them with fresh clues, but as the charges against John-Henry ripple out into the community, they find themselves without their usual resources, and facing new and unexpected opposition.Putting an end to this evil, they discover, might be possible. All it will cost them is everything.
Vie Eliot has survived a new high school, an abusive father, and the murderous Mr. Big Empty. Now, as Vie searches for Mr. Big Empty, he also finds himself facing an unexpected complication: how to be a good boyfriend. When a mysterious drifter named River disappears, though, Vie finds himself dragged into finding the missing boy. Vie's psychic abilities have proved useful in the past, and once again they set him on the trail of a gruesome murderer. But the pattern of killings seems to make no sense, and as Vie tries to stop the murderer, he learns that the people he loves most are in terrible danger. And the killings may be much more personal than Vie has suspected.
Only days have passed since Vie Eliot's murderous half-brother-a dangerous, out-of-control psychic-was stopped from killing the people Vie loves most, but Vie is ready for his life to return to normal. He has plans. Big plans. Make the cross country team, pick up his grades, and spend a lot of time with his boyfriend. On the day of cross country tryouts, though, Vie finds one of the teachers dead-and Vie refuses to believe that the death was a suicide. As he searches for the killer, or killers, he discovers that a conspiracy exists in the small town of Vehpese: a conspiracy that might be older and deeper than Vie first suspects, a conspiracy of drugs and human trafficking that might also be tied, in some way Vie can't quite understand, to his own abilities-and to the other psychic abilities in his town. When the murderers turn their attention to Vie, though, he discovers that his powers might not be up to the task. He faces ghosts, ancient monsters, and even an evil substitute teacher, but unless he can confront his past, and the trauma that lies there, he might not manage to save the people he cares about. He might not even survive himself.

And if he's lucky, he might even be able to pay his rent. This collection includes: "The Eye of the Crow""The Hundred Times""The Dog That Barks""A New Ocean"These stories were previously released to the author's patrons.
Come to Missouri! See the sights! Solve a murder! When Teancum Leon, a wildlife veterinarian, and his husband, semi-reformed conman Jeremiah Berger, go to a conference in central Missouri, they're expecting a short and uneventful trip. Tean will present a paper, attend a few panels, and network (under duress). Jem is looking forward to unlimited poolside drinks, some well-deserved couple time, and peace and quiet.Instead, they find themselves drawn into a frantic search after the head of the association goes missing. Worse, Tean's friend from grad school is arrested-and charged with murder. Their investigation takes them face-to-face with a fervent conspiracist, a band of wildlife traffickers, the owner of a big cat sanctuary, and more. But the real killer doesn't want to be found, and they'll do anything to stop Tean and Jem from learning the truth. Lucky for them, they've got a reluctant group of allies. Not so lucky for them? Their allies are...well, characters. Iron on Iron picks up after the events in Arrows in the Hand, which should be read first.
A jailhouse slaughter. A relentless killer. And way too much jackassing around. When word comes that two key witnesses in an investigation are dead, North and Shaw are surprised-and pleased-to learn that their friend, John-Henry Somerset, is interested in hiring them as freelance contractors for the Wahredua police department. The department is stretched thin, and the investigation into the Cottonmouth Club (and the criminal organization operating there) is collapsing. Not to mention-in North and Shaw's opinion, anyway-they're the best detectives around.Tracking down the killer won't be easy, though. The trail ends at the doors of a megachurch, where the close-knit family of the pastor is keeping more than one secret. Worse, a local politician seems to be involved, and he's got secrets of his own. On top of that, a sheriff's deputy has gone missing, and North and Shaw are convinced he knows who is orchestrating events.Pressing the investigation takes North and Shaw into the crosshairs-literally. And when their friends become targets as well, North and Shaw must hurry to learn the truth before the killer can strike at the people they care for most.Because when it comes to his friends, the only one who gets to mess with them is North McKinney.
The price for the truth might be their family. When Theo and Auggie return home-safe and sound and miraculously alive after being dragged into a murder investigation-all Theo wants is for life to get back to normal. No more murders. No more investigations. Nothing, in other words, that might put Auggie in danger. But when a girl from school goes missing, Theo finds himself reluctantly drawn into looking for her. Shaniyah was his former student, for one reason. And, for another, no one else seems interested in where she's gone. Worse, her disappearance seems to be linked to a break-in at Theo and Auggie's house. The search, though, quickly becomes more complicated than either Theo or Auggie could have expected. Shaniyah, they discover, had been conducting an investigation of her own, looking for another missing student. And the path to learning the truth about both disappearances, Theo fears, leads back to the Cottonmouth Club.

Emery Hazard and his partner, John-Henry Somerset, have solved their first case together. The brutal murders that rocked the quiet town of Wahredua have been put to rest. Hazard, however, finds his life has only grown more complicated as he adjusts to his new home. Living with Somers, whom he has been drawn to since high school, makes 'complicated' the understatement of the year. The turmoil of living together spills over when Hazard and Somers find themselves trapped by the weather in an old mansion and, against Hazard's better judgment, sharing a bed. Strictly as friends, of course. Just when things can't get any more confusing, the next morning brings a worsening storm--and a murder.Cut off from the outside world, Hazard and Somers must face a clever, determined killer who is hiding among the mansion's guests. Without backup, they can only rely on their wits--and on each other--to survive. And as the snow falls and the mansion's guests continue to die one by one, solving the string of murders becomes secondary. First, Hazard and Somers have to survive.
After Emery Hazard loses his job as a detective in Saint Louis, he heads back to his hometown--and to the local police force there. Home, though, brings no happy memories, and the ghosts of old pain are very much alive in Wahredua. Hazard's new partner, John-Henry Somerset, had been one of the worst tormentors, and Hazard still wonders what Somerset's role was in the death of Jeff Langham, Hazard's first boyfriend. When a severely burned body is discovered, Hazard finds himself drawn deeper into the case than he expects. Determining the identity of the dead man proves impossible, and solving the murder grows more and more unlikely. But as the city's only gay police officer, Hazard is placed at the center of a growing battle between powerful political forces. To his surprise, Hazard finds an unlikely ally in his partner, the former bully. And as they spend more time together, something starts to happen between them, something that Hazard can't--and doesn't want--to explain. The discovery of a second mutilated corpse, though, reveals clues that the two murders are linked, and as Hazard gets closer to answers, he uncovers a conspiracy of murder and betrayal that goes deeper--and closer to home--than he could ever expect.

Their search for the truth draws them into a dark web of conspiracy and into an even darker tangle of twisted love and illicit desire.
