Der Ägyptologe Heinrich Brugsch (1827 - 1894) will in vorliegendem Werk anhand der vorhandenen ägyptischen Denkmäler zeigen, dass "das Gebäude der altägyptischen Religion und Mythologie auf philosophischer Spekulation, welche die Glieder und den geistigen Inhalt des Kosmos auf die letzten Gründe genetisch zurückführt und die Entstehung aller Dinge aus dem Willen eines einzigen unsichtbaren, körperlosen, ungeborenen, unteilbaren, in sich selbst verborgenen, namenlosen Gottes hervorgehen lässt, der von Anbeginn an vor dem Seienden und der Anfang des Seienden war."
