Illustreret udgave af Herman Bangs apokalyptiske københavnerroman.København er den egentlige hovedrolleindehaver, mens den romankarakter, der kommer tættest på at være hovedperson, er journalisten og teaterdirektøren Herluf Berg, der minder meget om forfatteren selv.Handlingen følger en række foretagsomme personer og den moderne bys udvikling i opgang og nedgang. I romanens første del 'Regn af guld' er optimismen fremherskende og stemningen præget af ambitioner både for byen og for de centrale romankarakterer. I anden del 'Regn og aske' krakelerer stukken, og det hele falder fra hinanden, både bygninger, karrierer, kærlighedsforhold og liv.Teksten er i denne udgave nænsomt tilpasset et nyere dansk, hvor navneord skrives med lille begyndelsesbogstav, og å anvendes i stedet for aa. Desuden er tilføjet et persongalleri. Rikke Aarøe Carlsens 35 illustrationer til 'Stuk' er udført i pastel på papir. Motiverne er dels personportrætter, dels scener fra København. Tegningerne er impressionistiske i overensstemmelse med romanens fortællestil og fokusering på stemning.Stuk er udgivet mange gange siden den udkom første gang i 1887.
