Ian A. Campbell is proud to present his first poetry collection-a set of broadly relatable writings, divided into six distinct parts, touching on universal and sometimes surprising themes that open the door to thoughtful introspection: Life-Campbell mourns and memorializes loved ones who have passed on, examining the stages of his own life and the experiences that have changed him. Love-The power of love in all its forms is explored-the romance, the melancholy, and the pride of a father for his children. Livity-Campbell expounds upon this natural life force, the truth and energy that inhabits each of us and everything around us. Violence-The cycles of aggression and victimization through history and into the present day are lamented and their personal impacts examined. Belief-Campbell's sense of awe and wonder take flight in these poems revolving around faith and family. Race-Campbell draws on his own experience as a black man in America, pointing at how far American culture still has to go to create tolerance and stability for all citizens. Some of Campbell's poems are intensely personal; others look to society's freedoms and flaws-but all are inspirational, distinct expressions of creativity and passion.
Life and Rhythms represent author's philosophical understanding of life and what is true in the human soul. He believes these poems are cathartic and seek to amplify the human spirit with an internal light. Life and Rhythms stand as Campbell's evolution as a poet, using strict meters, forms, and rhyming schemes to put his philosophies forth. Life and Rhythms was brought about by long nights and a maddening passion to get each poem just right. The poems are our shared journeys, brimming with life lessons in a society in which we're increasingly lost. The author began Life and Rhythms knowing it could not have been written before now. His life's journey-his understanding-was only then capable of seeing life's many shades.
