Money really is the root of all evil. Brad Stephens knows this all too well. When Brad receives an email with a video feed attached to it, he's curious. When the feed shows a friend getting his throat slashed, he's sickened. And when he can't find the damn thing again, he's confused. But once seen, it can't be un-seen. When the killer finds out that B_Stephens received the email, the real fun begins. Did he see my face? Did he hear anything incriminating? Must I eliminate him? Follow the action from Santa Barbara to the beautiful fairways of Torrey Pines. And hold to your seat, it might be a bumpy ride!
When a serial killer begins murdering high-end real estate agents along the coast of California, Brad Stephens is called in by the FBI as a special consultant. With help from a self-help guru and a retired mobster Brad and agent Jim Krnich eventually discover who the killer is and come to understand the motivation behind the killings--and it is almost more disturbing than the crimes themselves.
Brad Stephens doesn't go looking for trouble. It just seems to find him. And in this case, trouble travels in the guise of a sinister brother and sister combo. Tony and Barbara Bruschetti have been very, very bad kids. When a golf partner is murdered by a sniper in front of Brad's eyes and a second shot travels through his golf bag, Brad is pretty sure he was the target for the second shot. He got lucky, the shooter missed. This time. The whole thing seems to be tied to an old photo of nine men taken in 1994 at a long-forgotten golf tournament. The first two guys killed were in that photo. The next three guys were in it too. And the sixth and seventh. And, yep, that's Brad Stephens, number eight or nine-depending on how you count-standing right there, third from the left, next to the only other man still alive. And that man is the guy who directly or indirectly caused the Great Recession. While Brad uses all of his resources to stay alive, Congress decides it wants to crucify the guy who caused the recession. Guess who they call as a witness? You got it. No doubt about it, trouble has found Brad Stephens...again.
When the body of one of Brad's longtime friends is found on the beach with two bullet holes in the back and Brad's card in his pocket, Brad becomes the lead suspect in the homicide. It will take some input from Raoul Espinoza and some soul-searching by the lead detective to save Brad's hide. In the meantime, the man who would be the next governor of California, Claude Longley and the new mayor of Santa Barbara, Roger Livingston, would both like to see Brad locked up in jail and the keys thrown in the ocean. Brad's quest to clear his name turns deadly when a blackmailer enters the picture. In this the fourth episode of the Brad Stephens Series, the action really cranks up a notch!
In the 5th installment of the Brad Stephens Series, Brad travels to St. Andrews for the Open Championship. Controversy follows him as his best player, John Linden wants to fire him and a Russian Oligarch wants to kill him. Neither option sounds fun...
