THIS little volume (the result of meditation and experience) is not intended as an exhaustive treatise on the much-written-upon subject of the power of thought. It is suggestive rather than explanatory, its object being to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth thatThey themselves are makers of themselves.by virtue of the thoughts, which they choose and encourage; that mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance, and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness. JAMES ALLEN.
This hardcover collector's edition is cleanly formatted for easy reading. 12 point Garamond, 1.25 spacing. "As a Man Thinketh" emphasizes how very powerful positive thought is and how it can drastically improve our life for the better. It is a self-help classic, inspiring millions around the world and providing timeless life improvement advice. It demonstrates how, through our own mind, we hold the key to every situation, good or bad, that enters our life, and that, by working patiently and intelligently on our own thoughts, we can transform our circumstances. "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Prov. 23:7
Spiritual meditation is the pathway to Divinity. It is the mystic ladder which reaches from earth to heaven, from error to Truth, from pain to peace. Every saint has climbed it; every sinner must sooner or later come to it, and every weary pilgrim that turns his back upon self and the world, and sets his face resolutely toward the Father's Home, must plant his feet upon its golden rounds. Without its aid you cannot grow into the divine state, the divine likeness, the divine peace, and the fadeless glories and unpolluting joys of Truth will remain hidden from you. Meditation is the intense dwelling, in thought, upon an idea or theme, with the object of thoroughly comprehending it, and whatsoever you constantly meditate upon you will not only come to understand, but will grow more and more into its likeness, for it will become incorporated into your very being, will become, in fact, your very self. If, therefore, you constantly dwell upon that which is selfish and debasing, you will ultimately become selfish and debased; if you ceaselessly think upon that which is pure and unselfish you will surely become pure and unselfish. Tell me what that is upon which you most frequently and intensely think, that to which, in your silent hours, your soul most naturally turns, and I will tell you to what place of pain or peace you are traveling, and whether you are growing into the likeness of the divine or the bestial. There is an unavoidable tendency to become literally the embodiment of that quality upon which one most constantly thinks. Let, therefore, the object of your meditation be above and not below, so that every time you revert to it in thought you will be lifted up; let it be pure and unmixed with any selfish element; so shall your heart become purified and drawn nearer to Truth, and not defiled and dragged more hopelessly into error.
This is one of the last books written by James Allen. Like all his books, he wrote when he had a message, and it became a message only when he had lived it out in his own life, and knew that it was good. In this book, which has inspired millions, James Allen shows us where to begin if we are to find Happiness and Success. This simple guide will help you find the correct mind-set to begin to change your life for the better and find more than happiness and success. It will also lead to blessedness, satisfaction and peace. "e;It is wise to know what comes first, and what to do first. To begin anything in the middle or at the end is to make a muddle of it."e; -James Allen
In Eight Pillars of Prosperity, James Allen expands on his beliefs that our thoughts and dreams determine the sort of person we will become. Here he reveals in great depth and detail the exact qualities we must meditate upon in order to achieve lasting success. He believed that prosperity rests on eight pillars: Energy, Economy, Integrity, System, Sympathy, Sincerity, Impartiality, and Self-reliance. "e;A business built up on the faultless practice of all these principles,"e; Allen writes, "e;would be so firm and enduring as to be invincible. Nothing could injure it; nothing could undermine its prosperity, nothing could interrupt its success."e;"e;The moral virtues are the foundation and support of prosperity as they are the soul of greatness. They endure forever, and all the works of man which endure are built upon them. Without them there is neither strength, stability, nor substantial reality, but only ephemeral dreams."e; - James Allen
New Thought pioneer and philosopher James Allen teaches us how to improve our life and spiritual wellbeing through the power of positive thinking. He believed that life is a pilgrimage, or a path from ignorance to realization. According to him, all men must and will follow this path, at the end of which is a state of spiritual satisfaction, which can be attained only by the earnest efforts of the seeker. He wants us to see what is in front of us and not rush by. Every day new beginnings are presented to us and while many appear small and insignificant, in reality they are the important things in life. "e;Along the great highway of life there are resting places; away from the heat of passion and the dust of disappointment, under the cool and refreshing shade of lowly Wisdom, are the humble, unimposing 'rest-houses' of peace, and the little, almost unnoticed, byways of blessedness, where alone the weary and footsore can find. - James Allen
As a Man Thinketh, James Allen's most famous book was originally published in 1902. It is now considered a self-help classic. Allen believed that man is the master-gardener of his soul and the director of his life. His thoughts profoundly affect his character, physical health, achievement, circumstances and even his destiny. Man must tend the garden of his mind, weeding out the bad and pursuing perfection. Although Allen never achieved great fame or wealth, his works continue to influence people around the world, including the New Thought movement. "e;A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts."e; - James Allen
This is James Allen's second book. It features fourteen of his inspirational essays, including: The Soul's Great Need, The Competitive Laws and the Law of Love, The Finding of a Principle, At Rest in the Kingdom, The Divine Center, The Eternal Now, The 'Original Simplicity,' The Unfailing Wisdom, The Might of Meekness, The Righteous Man, Perfect Love, Greatness and Goodness, and Heaven in the Heart. In All These Things Added, Allen addresses everyone's hunger for righteousness and teaches that only by eliminating the selfishness and darkness can one enter the Kingdom of God. "e;In seeking for pleasures here and rewards hereafter men have destroyed (in their hearts) the Temple of Righteousness, and have wandered from the Kingdom of Heaven. By ceasing to seek for earthly pleasures and heavenly rewards, the Temple of Righteousness is restored and the Kingdom of Heaven is found."e; - James Allen
