Vous savez, en effet, que le prophète d'aujourd'hui n'est point le premier de son espèce, pas plus qu'il n'en sera le dernier. Il y a eu des Mahdis avant lui et il y en aura après lui. L'histoire de ses prestiges, de ses promesses, de ses succès et, tôt ou tard, de la déception finale, toujours inévitable, a déjà retenti plus d'une fois dans l'Islam et retentira plus d'une fois encore. On a attendu le Mahdi dès les premiers jours de l'Islam et il y aura des Mahdis tant qu'il y aura un musulman.
