A Journey through Persia, Armenia, and Asia Minor, to Constantinople in the Years 1808 & 1809 is an illustrated look at the Middle East in the early 19th century.
The Adventures of Hajji Baba in Turkey, Persia, and Russia is a novel written by James Morier and published in 1855. The book is a fictional account of the travels and adventures of Hajji Baba, a Persian barber, as he journeys through Turkey, Persia, and Russia in the early 19th century. The story is told in the first person by Hajji Baba himself, and is written in a humorous and satirical style. The novel is divided into three parts, each of which covers a different leg of Hajji Baba's journey. In Turkey, Hajji Baba becomes embroiled in various political and romantic intrigues, and eventually finds himself in the service of the Grand Vizier. In Persia, he becomes a courtier to the Shah, and is involved in a number of humorous and absurd situations. Finally, in Russia, he is taken captive by a band of Cossacks, but eventually manages to escape and return home to Persia. Throughout the novel, Morier uses Hajji Baba's adventures to comment on the political and social conditions of the countries he visits. The book is also notable for its vivid descriptions of the landscapes, people, and customs of the regions through which Hajji Baba travels. The Adventures of Hajji Baba in Turkey, Persia, and Russia was a popular and influential work in its time, and is still considered a classic of travel literature today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
