Bókin kom út á norsku árið 1884 og byggir á rannsóknum Friis á Lapplandi.Jens Andreas Friis (f. 1896) var norskur rithöfundur og prófessor í málvísindum við Kristaníuháskóla (nú Háskólinn í Osló). Á sínum ferli rannsakaði hann menningu og tungumál Lapplands, flest verk hans snúa að rannsóknum sem hann stundaði.
