Um conto que aborda a questão do rótulo da loucura dos outros como forma de se fugir da própria loucura. A transformação em folclore de um personagem, cujo comportamento foge aos padrões comportamentais da sociedade. Os boatos. As crendices religiosas envolvendo a morte e a exploração política e comercial de todos esses fatos.

O conto "O julgamento do subversivo" narra a história de Divaldo, um jovem auxiliar de padeiro que, em 1973, após um deslizamento de terras que destruiu seu barraco no Aglomerado São Francisco de Assis, foi preso sob a alegação de que dentre os seus pertences espalhados pelo deslizamento havia material subversivo. O conto tem a intenção (até pretensiosa) de suscitar reflexões sobre uma conjuntura política que existiu exatamente há meio século atrás. Alguns acontecimentos narrados são bem atuais e lacunas foram deixadas propositadamente, especialmente em relação sobre quem eram os agentes encarregados da prisão do personagem central e como se deu a instrução inquérito e do processo até o julgamento, com a intenção de levar o leitor a tentar completá-las mentalmente durante a leitura. Ressalte-se que havia uma parceria das instituições civis e militares (PMs e Forças Armadas) envolvidas nas atividades policiais de sustentação do regime.

O livro relata a convivência do autor com um diagnóstico inesperado de câncer de próstata e a disputa entre os médicos: cada qual como melhor o tratamento em que é especializado. Relata as inseguranças do autor frente à doença e a sensação de solidão frente ao afastamento de parentes próximos, como as filhas e um irmão (ele julga que muitas pessoas se afastam dos doentes de câncer por medo de se aumentar o apego a eles e sofrer muito em decorrência desse apego no caso da morte do paciente). As dificuldades enfrentadas em relação ao tratamento, o que o seu plano de saúde cobria e o que não cobria, o pagamento complementar que teve que fazer, o medo da morte precoce. Os direitos do portador de câncer e várias outras questões. O autor, que é poeta, entremeou entres os capítulos do livro poemas que retratavam a sua relação com a doença, como forma de tornar o conteúdo menos pesado. Escrever sobre a sua luta contra a doença funcionou como uma terapia que o ajudou a enfrentar a situação com mais disposição. A leitura deste livro poderá ser de grande valia às pessoas que, por acaso, tenham que enfrentar a doença ou conviver com uma pessoa querida que dela seja acometida.
