Bach schenkte seiner Ehefrau Anna Magdalena zwei handgeschriebene Notenhefte.

Bach's life was "a searching for all that was best in his art to refine it in the fire of his genius." -- Grove's Dictionary of Music and MusiciansBach's mastery of rhythm and harmony, inventiveness, and genius for composition produced some of the richest and most beautiful music of all time. Those qualities are strikingly evident in his early concerti, which are among the most recorded and performed works in the baroque repertoire. This easy-to-read volume reprints, complete and unabridged, the master's seven complete concerti for solo keyboard and orchestra from the renowned Bach-Gesellschaft edition, still considered the primary source for Bach's music. Composed in Leipzig (c. 1735), these elegant works are almost completely based on earlier extant or lost concerti by Bach for violin and wind instruments. The concerti reproduced here in full score include Concerto in D Minor (BWV1052), Concerto in E Major (BWV 1053), Concerto in D Major (BWV 1054), Concerto in A Major (BWV 1055), Concerto in F Minor (BWV 1056), Concerto in F Major (BWV 1057), and Concerto in G Minor (BWV 1058).Musicians, students, and Bach devotees will applaud this clearly printed, wonderfully affordable playing edition of classic compositions by the supreme master of the baroque.
New 2017 printing, these six English Suites from 1715 are thought to have been written while Bach was living in Weimar. Each suite begins with a Prelude, a departure from the traditional suite progression, followed by an Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Bourrée or Gavotte or Menuet and all ending with a Gigue. Four of the six suites are in minor keys. Any reviews on Amazon before January 2017 are not associated with this book.

Several transcripts have been made of Johann Sebastian Bach's lute works over the past 150 years. Due to the simultaneous harmonic and melodic character of the lute and the lute harpsichord, favored by Bach, these usually evoke the original sound with a combination of several instruments (for example, Zoltan Kodaly's transcription of the lute prelude in C minor for cello and piano). The joint work of cellist Tamas Zetenyi (*1985) and composer Marcell Dargay (*1980) is exceptional in that respect that it transfers all movements of the lute suite in C minor, including the fugue, to a single cello. The publication also includes an ornamented version of the sarabande.

Beautiful, but somewhat difficult, music of Bach made playable by sharing the work among 4 hands in place of 2 hands and 2 feet. This brings the possibility of performing inspiring music to the newer player and has the ability to encourage them to go on and master the works in the original form themselves. Knowing them from the inside out, this way, makes it easier to put them together and perform them from the original scores.
Early in his career, Bach began to transcribe for the keyboard a number of concertos for violin, oboe, and other instruments by such baroque masters as Vivaldi and Telemann. His purpose: to study and explore the works of other composers as well as to supply good clavier music for his own performances. This collection of sixteen of these celebrated transcriptions is reprinted from the definitive Bach-Gesellschaft edition prepared by Ernst Naumann and presented in a study format designed to give amateur and professional pianists and harpsichordists a lifetime of pleasurable study and use.Six of these glorious keyboard works are known to be transcriptions of Vivaldi violin concertos. Three are based on concertos written by Duke Johann Ernst of Saxe-Weimar, the son of Bach's employer at Weimar. One is based on a violin concerto by Telemann, another on an oboe concerto by Alessandro Marcello, and another on a concerto by Benedetto Marcello. The sources of the remaining works are unknown.Vivaldi, whose music Bach probably first heard in 1712, was to provide a strong influence on the young composer. Bach would eventually assimilate the Italian's style and use it with his own contrapuntal heritage and the Northern idiom in creating what we recognize today as the typical Bach style. These transcriptions, which represent his introduction to the new idiom, richly display a dynamic virtuosity that makes their performance an exhilarating experience.

This is created for harpsichordists, pianists and organists who love the Cello Suites. It is also useful for students interested in expanding their familiarity with the Bass Clef. These fifteen movements lend themselves nicely for realization and performance on a keyboard. The realization is based upon the study of four early copies of the original violoncello manuscript - which, itself, has never been found. Bach brilliantly created music for the four or five strings of the Baroque Cello that states and, when not possible, implies harmonies. This realization puts these implied harmonies on paper.
