Benson examines the history of this doctrine, tracing its origins and development over time, and explores the reasons why it was eventually rejected by mainstream Christianity. He also discusses the recent revival of this heresy among certain religious groups and argues against its validity, providing a detailed critique of the arguments used to support it. The book is a fascinating exploration of a little-known aspect of Christian theology and provides valuable insights into the history of religious thought. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. This is an attempt to illustrate the just and righteous relation of earthly government and its responsibilities, if any, in regards to debauchery and vices (i.e. gambling, liquor, pornography, prostitution, etc.). This writing has been approached primarily based on the teachings of the prophets and apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as other notable individuals. I recognize the potential inherent fallacies in such an "appeal to authority", nevertheless, I present the following for your consideration. While this book does not attempt to present the historical statistical data regarding the impact of vices and debaucheries on a community, many of the statements contained within are presented based on the evidence of such influences. Most of the statements contained within this book encompass the following topics: Government regulation of vices and debaucheryDo debauchery and vices violate the rights of others?Should a distinction be made between public and private vices? The effect of vices and debaucheries on a communityMoral agency and libertyFreedom versus licenseThe proper role of governmentand more

This book is intended as an overview of secret combinations, to make it clear what they are, who they are, how they operate and what their agenda is. The world is divided into two powers. One is the gospel of the Son of God, based on the order of heaven, promoting peace and righteousness. The other is the order of secret abominations - the mode of governing mankind by the means of terrible oaths and by the law of force. "There is no conspiracy theory in the Book of Mormon - it is a conspiracy fact." (Ezra Taft Benson) Those who are watching sense the world is becoming more wicked and more corrupt over time. The issues we face today are like fires, but these are not accidental fires. While putting out the fires is a good cause, it's also important to identify the arsonists. Many evils in this world have been made possible and supported by well-meaning but ignorant people who did not understand the consequences of their actions. "In any struggle, it is essential to know both what you are fighting for and what you are fighting against. If knowledge of the former is lacking, the will to win will be absent. If knowledge of the latter is lacking, confusion and uncertainty will result." (J. Edgar Hoover, Former FBI Director) Topics covered in this book: Why we need to understand evil. What are secret combinations. Secret combinations in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Secret combinations have existed since Cain. The world is full of secret organizations. The false left-right paradigm. What is our responsibility. The parable of the tower. "..it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain ... Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you ..." (The Book of Mormon, Ether, chapter 8) "I testify that wickedness is rapidly expanding in every segment of our society. It is more highly organized, more cleverly disguised, and more powerfully promoted than ever before. Secret combinations lusting for power, gain, and glory are flourishing. A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world." (Ezra Taft Benson)
Respectability, Bankruptcy and Bigamy in Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth-Century Britain explores the vexed question of middle-class respectability in Victorian and Edwardian Britain. It focuses upon the life of London solicitor Hamilton Pawley (1860-1936), who was barred from working by the Law Society, twice declared bankrupt, and in 1919 was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment with hard labour for bigamously marrying a woman practically forty years his junior. If Pawley did not suffer the revenge of respectable society, it is difficult to think who would.¿Drawing upon the fact that the disgraced and the disreputable have always tended to attract a disproportionate amount of attention, the book ranges widely, exploring such important issues as middle-class education, career choices, the dynamics of family life, and the workings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth-century legal system. It shows that Pawley was able to hold on to his professional - and even gentlemanly - status for far longer than seemed likely. This all suggests, the book concludes, that although respectability was as important to the middle class as we have always been told, it was both easier to acquire and easier to retain than we have generally been led to believe.¿This book will appeal to all those interested in British society in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

This text aims to remedy the problem of the neglect of the middle-aged in social history and sociology studies. It examines how middle age has changed since the 1700s and considers what these changes have meant for the middle-aged themselves and for society at large.
An introductory textbook on ethical issues about the environment and our involvement with it. The author introduces the reader to a fundamental question: whether a concern with human well-being is an adequate basis for environmental ethics. It presupposes no prior knowledge of philosophy.
