Aside from lending unique and delicious flavor to our food, these spices have some incredibly powerful health benefits that make their consumption ideal for boosting our health too. This ability of spices to make our food both tasty and healthy is the reason why they are found in all kinds of cuisine. There are dozens of spices that work wonders for one's health; this book discusses in detail a truly beneficial little spice called fennel. This crispy and sweet tasting herb is used to enhance Mediterranean cooking and is frequently linked to Italian cuisine. It comes highly recommended as a part of your stock of fresh vegetables for the days between autumn and spring. The great thing is that the usefulness of this herb does not lie in its use as a spice alone, it has amazing health benefits that have been compounded by scientific research which has shown that this unordinary herb has extraordinary medical applications that range from mental to bodily. In fact, what is being proven by research today was already known in South Eastern cultures where it has been used as a digestive for centuries. This book aims to completely school you in the many health benefits of this herb and in ways to use it effectively to make it a part of your diet. Upon reaching the end, you will find that this apparently trivial herb can be extremely good for your health and doesn't disrupt you routine at all.

And my answer is always invariably, traditional textiles, and that is all I have, a really good collection of traditional textiles made locally. Below is an excellent example of traditional dyeing, an art which has been practiced in many parts of the world, for millenniums. So this book is going to tell you all about how you can enjoy a brand-new activity, that of dyeing, as done in the East and in the West with natural products. You can see the neck in a different color design, and the border of the shirt made up with a white traditional border design. All I have to do is press this cloth after washing it, pressing it, and then cutting it, according to my own specifications and stitching it to make an excellent tie-dye shirt. So now let us begin with the art of dyeing, which is almost forgotten today, even though once upon a time with a great number of chemicals dyes coming into the market in the Victorian era, every single piece of cloth was dyed in really colorful, discordant, and really bright hues. If you look at some of the clothing worn by women in the 18th and 19th century, you should not be surprised if they wore dresses made up with green, orange, vermilion, scarlet, red, pink, and any other color of their choice, all mixed together like that of a colorful parakeet. And that was the fashion. Today, we are going to call that loud fashion sense "noisy and tasteless." That is because it is possible that we prefer more subdued colors instead of dark and clashing colors all mixed up in rainbow hues in just one garment. But at that time, the more colorful the attire, the more that woman was considered to be fashionable. Tie-dye traditionally happens to be the art of resistance dyeing. You can get distinctive patterns by just tying the fabric into pleats, folds, knots, and even scrunches. This is going to prevent the dye from penetrating certain areas. My mother told me that she and her younger sister were taught a particular subject, at school in England after the 2nd world war, called Domestic Science, and these types of courses were even taught at the college level. I was looking in my aunt's practical books, and found plenty of tie and dye patterns, which had to be made by the students, in order to pass the Degree Course. These techniques have been around for centuries, all over the world, especially in West Africa, where it is called batik, in Asia, and in southeastern Asia. The flower children of course used to wear plenty of tie and dye clothing, in the 50s and 60s and this particular dress happened to be emblematic of the free-spirited day and age of that particular era. These clothes were accompanied with lots of beads and huge chunky jewelry. So let us begin with tips on how to dye properly.

Table of Contents Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2: Natural Shelters 2.1 Shelter from Caves 2.2 Snow Caves and Shelters Chapter 3: Wood Shelters 3.1 The Dome Shelters 3.2 Ramada Shelters 3.3 Teepee/Tipi Chapter 4: Tarp Shelters Chapter 5: Debris Hut Chapter 6: Conclusion 6.1 Factors Author Bio Publisher Introduction A shelter, shade, or house has been a source of protection and comfort for human kind ever since it first realized the benefits of being under a shelter. In many fronts, a shelter is a very fundamental need of living creatures and it has a psychological and emotional importance and value along with physical and material. Men started building shelters in the earliest times of their existence and since then have been developing the most modern and evolutionary methods of building homes with developing and evolving mental models along with advanced technology. When in the wilderness, shelter is home, a base point to rest, and protection from rain, snow, cold, wild animals, storms, thunders, and sliding lands. Shelter is an unparalleled source of comfort whether you are out in a jungle for an adventure trip or trapped with your friends in an island full of palms and coconuts. Since the primitive ages, creation of shade and formation of a base area to fall upon has been a human norm. The idea of creating a home has nurtured since the beginning of human times on earth, as it was inculcated in man by nature. Creating shelter in the emergency situation can even avoid life threatening situations and provide a point from where the navigation and communication can become easy. Being in possession of the ability and skill set to build a water proof safe shelter is a blessing and drastically increaseschances of survival until aid is received. Creating a shade cannot only help protect you from unkind circumstances and adverse situations, but also benefit others who are accompanying you. Temporary arrangements can also be made by nature if you feel lethargic or have drained yourself with all day tracking. Caves, pits, snow, and dense woods can be your best partners as natural and dependable shelters in cases where building material is not easily available or has been out of reach. However, such lucky opportunities and not available commonly and that is where people like me start writing such kinds of books. Shelter making is knowledge and an art that we shall discuss in detail through the help of this book. We will explain in detail different ways to create and protect shelters and the material required to accomplish this apparently challenging task. Location of shelter is very important; you would not want to lie down next to a snake hole. Select an area to build shelter where you can get ample space to lie down flat, comfortably, without apprehensions. Shelter should be developed near the source of building material and water and away from sliding stones, pooling water, and insects. Make your shelter sufficient in size to fit you inside. It should not be very big since it will take more time, material, and effort to construct and should not be so small so that you would need to squeeze yourself to fit in. The best way is to lie down flat and measure your height with the help of a stick or just take a rough measurement with your hands after marking ground from head to toes. Start building your shelter accordingly once you have a good wilderness judgment of your height. A luxury sized shelter is also not advisable because more vacant space inside will not conserve heat and you may feel cold. An effective adventure shade, which is fit enough, will also conserve body heat and would not allow cold to come inside.

To this day, Greek medicine is practiced by its advocates as an alternative to contemporary medicine. In fact, modern science has started to prove what the ancient herbalists used in their medicine is actually effective. One prominent herb that has been used in medicine since millennia is rosemary. More specifically known as Rosmarinus officinalis, it is a perennial, woody herb that is characterized by sweet-smelling, needle-shaped leaves and flowers whose color may be white, blue, pink or purple. This herb originates from the Mediterranean region and belongs to the family of mint. Although it is used frequently by many people in several roast dishes and various types of stuffing for its characteristic aroma and strong flavor, in particular, in Italian cuisine, it has an astonishing lot of health benefits, many of which have been proved by research and some which, scientists are still in the process of researching on. These health benefits concern both the human mind and body, ranging from mild health conditions to extremely severe ones. Having your own garden may not be possible for many of us today busy in the rat race of the 21st century. Nevertheless, there are still many people fortunate enough to have open land outside their houses where they can make their own flower gardens or kitchen gardens. This book is going to tell you how to make an organic kitchen garden for pleasure and also for profit. Just like any other garden, a little bit of planning has to go into making your vegetable garden. It should have sufficient paths in it so that you can wheel about manures etc. in barrows, if necessary. You may also want to remove all the green vegetal rubbish accumulating while gardening. There is absolutely no need for your garden to be all paths if it is pocket-sized and you are strapped for space. In small gardens one path at one side is more than enough. Whatever the size of your organic vegetable garden may be, this book is going back to traditional methods of growing vegetables in a healthy manner. We are not talking about chemical fertilizers and poisonous pesticides. Instead, we are going to talk about natural manure, compost, and other traditional methods used by our forefathers to get a good healthy crop for family and neighbors. Many people out there would not want to grow all kinds of vegetables because hey, how many of us like eating greens? But then the moment we see them growing in our gardens and we pluck our first harvest, we begin to think in terms of healthy eating, especially when the meals have been made of organic vegetables grown in our own backyard. Your main priority is to see that the ground is fully occupied for most of the year and that no part of your garden is wasted. Think Japanese gardens. They know how to utilize every single inch of space and get the most out of it. All right, you may see their gardens on a small scale, but no inch of soil in a farm is left uncultivated if they can help it. This may look crowded, but it is not. So let us consider ourselves gardening newbies and begin our journey towards achieving the goal of the perfect long-term organic vegetable kitchen garden right now. Remember that your kitchen garden is not going to be restricted to just vegetables. You can also grow herbs in it. Who is stopping you from growing flowers in it? Your aim is to plan your kitchen garden in such a way that you gain lots of pleasure from it, and then you may decide to carry on to the profit stage.

Their health benefits have been documented with the passage of time and are now being tested in the light of modern scientific researches; looking at the results of these researches, there is a good reason why you should consider reading the rest of the book! A stalwart nut in cakes, puddings and other sweat dishes, almonds have been on almost every household's shopping list. With respect to freshness, they are always preferred to hazelnuts & walnuts and their slow rate of rancidity makes them a food item that can easily tolerate the back of a storage cupboard. Their neutral, nutty and crunchy taste upon baking makes them irresistibly delicious and in no time can you nibble your way through every almond in front of you. But what are the origins of this super-delicious and nutritious food? Almond is actually a species of trees, belonging to the genus Prunus, which are indigenous to the South & Middle East region of Asia. The almond plant is widely cultivated for its edible seed, also known as almond. The almond tree is a deciduous one and grows 4-10 m in height; it has a trunk of diameter 30 cm. The twigs when young are of green color but become purplish as soon as they are exposed to sunlight. In the second year the twigs become grey and the leaves grow 3-5 inches long. The flowers are characterized by white to pinkish color, 3-5 cm diameter and usually consist of 5 petals. The fruit matures in the autumn, about 8 months after flowering but still for an economic bearing, one more year is required. The fruit is about 4-6 cm long and in specific terms is not exactly a nut, but rather a drupe. A drupe is a fruit in which an outer fleshy part surrounds a shell containing a seed but instead of being fleshy the outer part of the fruit is thick and leathery in texture. Inside this hull is a hard, woody shell which packs the edible seed known to many as almond. The seed acquired from the woody shell is covered by a thin brownish skin, which when pealed reveals the inner color of almond; i.e. off white. Almonds can further be categorized into two types: i.Sweet Almonds ii.Bitter Almonds

Table of Contents Introduction Heavy Clay Sandy Soils Organic Matter Stop Those Bonfires! Compost Layers Amount to Use Using Sedge Peat Poultry Manure and Bone Meal How to Make Leaf Mold Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction Before one plans a garden or plants it, he takes a good look at the soil in which the seedlings and the plants are going to grow in the future. After all, you, being either an experienced gardener or a newbie, are the one who has to cope with the particular soil that you are blessed within your garden. So it is of course not going to be any use at all, telling you to plant plants which grow best in a sandy soil, if your garden is full of heavy clay and heavy loam. And vice versa. That is why, this book is going to tell you all about the different types of cells, and how you can make them even more nutritious and nourishing for your plants through organic fertilizer. The only type of soil which may not need organic manuring is the peaty soil, because it is already made up of rich organic components. However, this needs lime. This also needs organic fertilizers occasionally. If the soil is made up of light sand, then it needs humus badly. Humus is the decomposed organic matter, which is normally found on the top surface of the soil. The humus content of the soil is going to help keep the sandy particles together and to make it less "droughty."

Table of Contents Introduction White Sand Drying Sand Preparation Layering of the Flowers Drying of Ferns How to make a Fern Window Decoration Traditional German Flower Smoking Method Fern Outline Airbrushing Splatter Spray Card Skeletonized leaves for Winter Decoration Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction All of these beautiful flowers can be dried, so that one can appreciate the beauty, even after they have been plucked from their stalks. So can their seedpods and foliage. Drying plants, ferns, herbs, and flowers for use in the future or just for decoration in the house, when they are not in season, has been en vogue for centuries, all over the world, wherever there was a thinking man existing who wanted to take advantage of something, which could be utilized in the future when that particular plant was not in season. And so in order to keep the beauty of flowers, along came the idea of drying these plants and to a large number of experimentations, over a large number of years, using many different mediums. More and more people began to learn that yes, it was easy for you to dry plans, as well as flowers in a natural manner, and have them ready within a couple of days or weeks to be preserved permanently, in a dried state. There are plenty of methods, with which you can dry plants and flowers, and this book is going to tell you all about easily done traditional methods, which were followed in the 19th century, by ladies who did not want to spend lots of money in buying expensive equipment or getting over laden with chemicals in order to do some natural enjoyable activities like drying ferns and flowers. And after that, these are used in winter decorations, in their houses, where they were placed in glass containers and jars, like had been done in millions of houses, down the centuries by other house proud housewives. Some of these plants were called everlastings or immortelles. Helichrysums were given the name of everlastings, because even after drying, they kept their golden pretty color. The immortelles belong to the daisy Asteraceae family. A little bit of experimentation is going to be necessary, depending on where you live, and the amount of flowers and the varieties you get there. Everlastings are normally cut, when they are still in Bud form or before they have reached their full maturity stage. They are then placed upside down, in any area, where you do not have direct or bright sunlight, so that they can dry naturally.

This book tries to give you a thorough insight into the scenario of the earthquake. We begin by making you realize that your reactions will always vary with your positions and the steps that you have to take will be different in each situation. Table of Contents Introduction Chapter 1: Appearance Chapter 2: Behavior Chapter 3: Environment Conclusion Author Bio Bonus Dinosaur Content Introduction to Dinosaurs Facts about Dinosaurs Dinosaur Extinction Dinosaur Fossils Dinosaur Eggs Dinosaur Names Dinosaur Diet Feathered Dinosaurs Plant Eating Dinosaurs The Weirdest Dinosaurs The Deadliest Dinosaurs Flying Dinosaurs Kinds of Dinosaurs The Biggest Dinosaurs The Smallest Dinosaurs Author Bio Publisher Introduction Greetings young reader! Today we are going to take a step back in time and enter the age of the dinosaurs. The dinosaurs are an extinct species of animal that began to live on the Earth over 200 million years ago. "Extinct" means that they no longer exist. The dinosaurs are some of the most intriguing and awe-inspiring animals that have existed on our planet. The dinosaurs' colossal size, strange characteristics, and mysterious disappearance make them inherently worthy of study and interest. Even more than these reasons, the study of dinosaurs itself is an incredible adventure which requires thought and imagination. The study of dinosaurs helps you to appreciate just how mysterious and amazing life and nature really is. Our planet supports not only us and the animals that live today, but it even supported creatures as gigantic and strange as the dinosaurs- just think how cool that is! I hope that you bring a spirit of openness and wonder to your study of the dinosaurs, and that you come to appreciate the mystery and value of the dinosaurs. The Spinosaurus is a well-known dinosaur because of its tremendous size and the sail-like growth that protrudes from its back. The Spinosaurus was also the star of a very recent and popular dinosaur movie. We are going to discuss the strange appearance of the Spinosaurus, the behavior, and the dinosaurs that it lived with. We know what we know about the dinosaurs from a variety of sources including fossils, biology, and other scientific disciplines. Fossils are the ancient remains of the dinosaurs, the most familiar being their bones. Biological science is the study of life in general, but many scientists compare the dinosaurs to modern day animals to support their theories. Before a talk about dinosaurs can take place it is important that we discuss the theory of evolution. Evolutionary theory supposes that all the animals we know and see today are the direct descendants of animals that existed millions of years ago. The dinosaurs and other creatures that existed millions of years ago either died out or gradually changed into different animals. For instance, birds are considered to be surviving dinosaurs because their dinosaur ancestors survived the dinosaur extinction event (we will discuss this later).

But what is insomnia exactly? Is it when you're not able to sleep? Yes, maybe, but for how long? And how many times must you experience sleeping troubles before you think you have insomnia? The medical community defines insomnia as the inability to attain sleep. To put it simply, there are two aspects of this disorder- either difficulty when falling asleep, or inability to stay asleep for an appropriate period of time. One cannot diagnose insomnia all by him/herself; it is clinically predicted by several factors. Moreover, the condition may either prevail in its simple isolated form, or may be complicated by the presence of other diseases or predisposing factors. Don't worry as each of your questions will be answered! Everything you need to know about insomnia is in this book, its signs, its cures, its causes; simply everything. Subsequent Pruning - Other Types of Roses Ramblers Climbing HTs Rose Standards Weeping Standards Floribundas General Management of Rose Plants Disbudding Roses Rose Pests and Diseases Appendix How to Make Rose Water How to Make a Rose Potpourri Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction I was just wondering why gardeners are so fascinated by roses, that they want some rose shrubs in their garden. Well, there is historical and mythological precedent for the popularity of roses. In ancient and classical times, the rose was considered to be a symbol of love and Aphrodite was always seen surrounded by roses in her temples. Red and pink in Spanish, French, Italian, Greek, Romanian and Portuguese is always symbolized with the word "rose". Many countries, like England, USA and Catalonia and cities like Islamabad, Alberta, Oregon, and states like New York, and Iowa consider the rose to be their official or unofficial symbol. As hybridization of roses is an easy process, 160 species grew up into 6000 species of roses of cultivars and hybrids in the famous Malmaison gardens of the Empress Josephine in the 1800s. Even during wartime, her gardeners were allowed to travel anywhere when on rose duty. Since ancient times, roses were used not only to beautify gardens, but also used in cooking and in beauty treatments. Rose oil, and rose petals were used as essential oils to beautify oneself, by almost everybody in ancient civilizations. This book is for all those experienced gardeners, and even newbies who want to know all about growing roses easily in your garden.
