This is the third book in the Jake Lowry Mystery Series. All three novels are set in the Coeur d'Alene and Silver Valley, Idaho region. Jake Lowry and his partner, Detective Bruce David are awakened in the middle of the night to respond to a dead body leaning against the wall of Ken Kunkle's former house. The victim has been murdered by having an awl plunged into his heart. The victim, Dr. Lawrence Matile, was the former employer for Nora Wallace. The term 'Coeur d'Alene' was crafted by the French Traders when they met the local indians. The French said they had trading skills as hard as the heart of an awl. Over time this expression has come to mean 'Awl through the Heart.' The second victim murdered in the same manner had a note signed with Chinese writing. The signature on the note translates to 'White Devil.' A mysterious killer or killers are now stalking anyone involved in the Ken Kunkler murder investigation. Jake and David call for the assistance of Inspector Robbie Forbes in Whitley Bay, England and Sergeant Ammo Vecchio of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Kamloops, Canada to help solve this mystery.
This is the second in the series of Jake Lowry mysteries. The first; "THE TANNING BED MURDERS" is also set in the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Silver Valley area. Jake Lowry and his partner, Detective Bruce David, had an easy winter. They solved the KEN KUNKLE murder but the murderess, NORA WALLACE escaped. Both are still chafing that NORA has escaped. Jake and David are assigned two interesting identity theft cases. The first victim is the widow Eustace. She has tried to sell her house and finds that someone has emptied her bank account of her life's savings and her husband's life insurance settlement. The second victim, Ron Gutierrez is a Merchant Marine who was arrested on warrants in Los Angeles but had never been in Los Angeles prior to the date of his arrest. As they solve these cases they receive a call from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that NORA may have been spotted in BEAMISH, England. This begins "THE SEARCH FOR NORA WALLACE."
