Old St. Paul's, also titled Old Saint Paul's: A Tale of the Plague and the Fire, is a novel by William Harrison Ainsworth serially published in 1841. It is a historical romance that describes the events of the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London. It was the basis for the silent film Old St. Paul's.In 1840, Ainsworth published Guy Fawkes and The Tower of London. When their serial publications were completed at the end of the year, Ainsworth began writing Old St. Paul's, A Tale of the Plague and the Fire.[1] Ainsworth, in a letter to James Crossley 7 December 1840, wrote: "You told me that you have a second part of De Foe's History of the Plague. Pray bring this with you. I will take the greatest care of it, but it is quite necessary I should see it, as I commence a new Romance with the New Year, under the title of The Plague of London. If you have any other tract relating to the period, or to the Fire, I shall feel obliged by the loan of it

After several years of being incarcerated, Demond finally has his freedom. However, while Demond is out on the streets, several family members are being harassed and imprisoned due to Detective Groves' longtime grudge against the Nilknars. He would do anything to get them off the streets. As if Demond's team being off the streets wasn't enough, a disaster hits the city killing hundreds of people, leaving the city destitute and in turmoil. Having that much animosity is not always good for the soul. With cocaine being scarce these last couple years, the streets are drying up fast. Still, when you have the demand for product, you must have the supply. To be able to have supply, you need a connect, but connections are scarce and limited. An enormous favor is called in from behind the caged walls that would put Demond back on top, and streets would become flooded once again. But still be mindful of Detective Groves' close eye on him. Along with an unexpected release, Nut being able to infiltrate a notorious Cartel with the promise of wealth, sex, and infamy. People are willing to do anything and risk everything for its riches. By reason of Detective Groves' unrelenting pressure to put the Nilknars away for all eternity, Hawk feels closed-in, not wanting to face imprisonment, he decides to become legit and started a business of his own. With the hopes of Demond and Rylo joining the business, but they lived for the hustle. They feed off playing Russian roulette and staying a step ahead of the law and opps. Could they ever live a legit and legal life? Or do the street have that strong of a hold on Rylo and Demond?

In days of hurried action I have been astonished at the depth of interest which a re-perusal of this wonderful old narrative has held for me. Wonderful it is in its simplicity and its revelation of the simplicity of character and faith of the man who wrote it. It is old only by comparison-scarcely ninety years have elapsed since the adventures it described were enacted-yet such a period has never held a fuller measure of change or more speedily passed current events into the limbo of the past. Nothing could more vividly impress this change than the narrative itself. We are told that Mr. Beck missed his ship at Yarmouth but succeeded in rejoining her at Stromness, having travelled "nine successive days almost without rest." What a vision of post-chaises, sweating horses and heavy roads is suggested! And if the contrast with present-day conditions in our own Islands is great, how much greater is it in that vast Dominion through which Franklin directed his pioneer footsteps. As he followed the lonely trails to Fort Cumberland, or sailed along the solitary shores of Lake Winnipeg, how little could he guess that in less than a century a hundred thousand inhabitants would dwell by the shore of the great lake, or that its primeval regions would one day provide largely the bread of his countrymen. There civilisation has followed fast indeed, and ever it presses forward on the tracks of the pioneer. But even today if we follow Franklin we must come again to the wild-to the great Barren Lands and to the ice-bound limit of a Continent-regions where for ninety years season has succeeded season without change-where few have passed since his day and Nature alone holds sway. For those who would know what IS as well as for those who would know what HAS BEEN, this narrative still holds its original interest; all must appreciate that it records the work of a great traveller and a gallant man whose fame deserves to live.
