The Beatles continue to fascinate and gain the love of many millions of people around the world 50 years after they first burst onto the world stage in 1964. This book looks at the earliest years of the band before they were famous, 1960-62. At this time they were playing in Hamburg, Germany, and had a fifth member called Stuart Sutcliffe, John Lennon's best friend. The book explores the relationship between them and Stuart's ill-fated romance with the Hamburg photography student Astrid Kirchherr before his untimely and tragic death in April 1962. Astrid's and Stuart's artistic talent and influence on John and the Beatles look and music are an untold story - until now.
This is an historical adventure/romance set in England in the late 1700s in which a rich aristocrat loses everything he has in a card game and then meets a lovely young highwaywoman who, as he is penniless, takes him with her as a bounty; but then they fall in love as he finds out her beauty and personal history and realises they have a lot in common. It all ends tragically but with a few surprises and twists along the way.
This is an action adventure story in which a fourteen year old boy, Joshua, finds out that the Earth is going to be destroyed by a comet within a few weeks. He escapes from England to the USA, by hiding on a ship and: with a little help from his uncle, The Prof, and a friend, Bartek, who works for NASA, plus some hindrance from the sinister organisation 'ARK' who are trying to stop him, Joshua bravely manages to save the Earth.
Imagine a journey from South America's Cape Horn, through the Drake Passage (also known as the Sea of Hoces), and on to rugged and majestic Antarctica. You'll see stunning views - ice, snow, mountains, water, seals, whales, and penguins (plus several dozen other types of birds and animals). You might think that it is possible to get tired of those views, but the author disagrees. This edition is a collection of photographs taken during two weeks on a Russian icebreaker vessel, including time spent camping on Antarctica itself, sleeping in the snow. For the few that have experienced similar voyage, it's the adventure of a lifetime. For those who dream of making this trip someday, these photos will be a tantalizing hint of what is to come.
Most men would like their female partners to experience the maximum possible pleasure during sex. On the other hand men tend to be rather simple and straightforward creatures when it comes to pleasure and go straight in there without paying attention to foreplay and the pleasure zones. This is a really big and basic mistake and one that many men make - especially (but not only) when they are young and sexually inexperienced. While there's no formula that will please each individual woman, there are a few general ground rules that you can follow. So what's a man to do if he wants new ways to give his sexual partner real pleasure? No matter who you're with it's nice to spice up your sex life with some new moves that she is likely to find pleasurable. If you're doing the same things in bed time after time, things are bound to become a little stale. That's why you need to mix things up and surprise your partner. The pleasure or 'erogenous' zones are placed all over the female body and are easy to find and stimulate. Your partner will love you for it - and I assure you that you will get back at least as much extra pleasure as you give. It's time to go on an erogenous zone exploration! One easy clue to where the erogenous zones are placed is that they are the areas that women draw attention to with perfume and jewellery and other adornments. This is like a sexual signal to men to draw their eyes to these places - the neck (with a necklace or choker), the ear lobes (with ear rings). The most obvious example is the use of lipstick to redden the lips - this echoes the reddening of the vaginal lips when sexually excited and is a really basic female human signal of availability (or at least possible availability) for sexual contact. From her head all the way to her toes, here is a selection of the top erogenous zones to turn her on and give her maximum pleasure.
We are all interested in sex. That is only natural because it is the reason why we were born and we are biologically programmed to be interested in it, in order to reproduce. However, most people are shy to ask the basic questions about sex that worry them; e.g. many men worry about the size of their penis and whether it will disappoint their sexual partner. In this book I am to deal honestly and openly with the basic questions we all have about sex and in doing so, get rid of unnecessary anxieties and ignorance about this most basic and important topic. I hope this book will improve your knowledge of; and confidence in sex - which is sure to help to improve your sexual performance and pleasure.
Without it, life would not exist on this planet. It is essential to all living things. It is an extraordinary molecule with extraordinary properties. This is the only planet in the Solar System where its liquid form has been found. All of us humans are made up of around two thirds of it...I am talking of course about: water - the miracle molecule. What I aim to do in this book is explain the biological importance of water in terms of water's unique chemical properties.
It was once joked that Americans and British are divided by a common language. The Pilgrim Fathers, those few centuries ago, crossed the Atlantic and started a new country and a new culture, and over that time those two versions of English have diverged somewhat. When Americans and British people meet, they usually presume that having a common language will be enough; that they will understand each other, however, from my own experience I don't think this is necessarily the case; there can be and are, confusions. For example, I know someone who went on holiday to California and ordered for her family, 'a burger and chips.' What she got; is what British people would call 'a burger and crisps' - meaning a burger accompanied by very thin crispy and crunchy pieces of deep fried potato; she did not get a burger and fries - which is of course what she meant to order ('chips' in Britain are the same as 'fries' in the USA - and that is what she would have ordered if only she had known better. This is the kind of misunderstanding that I would like to eliminate for you through the simple process of you reading and remembering what is in this book. Whether you are an American on their way to Britain on business or on holiday, or a British person going in the opposite direction, I think this book can help prevent quite a lot of confusion for you and make you trip better and smoother. I hope so, after all the British and Americans are really cousins at the end of the day, and it would be great if we could understand each other a little better, wouldn't it?
This book aims to introduce the reader to Biology at an advanced level and to be used in addition to the text book I am sure you already own. I think that conventional textbooks embed the principles too deeply in the text and that these principles are the key to understanding Biology and to success in exams - which is what all students want. This book explains Biology in the form of a series of questions and answers: such as 'What is the function of DNA?'; answer: 'It contains genes that code for the production of proteins and is the molecule of inheritance.'The book also contains exam questions and answers - with hints and tips from me as to how to interpret and answer the questions. Each chapter begins with a glossary so you understand the terms and words BEFORE you read the chapter. My hope is that you will find the book really useful and it will improve and deepen your understanding of Biology.

This book explains what viruses are and their positive and negative effect on humans in a clear and easy to understand question and answer format. Key words are explained at the start of the book to help aid easy understanding of this important and fascinating subject. Major viral diseases such as AIDS and yellow fever are explained along with possible biotechnological and medical uses of viruses.
When Watson and Crick in 1953 discovered the double helix structure of DNA they claimed to have discovered the secret of life. In biological terms there is much truth in that, because of course the structure of DNA tell us much about how it replicates and passes on information, But let us not forget what the DNA code is actually coding for - proteins! That's right - every single gene is a code that instructs the cell which of the 20 amino acids to put in which places in order to make the structure of that particular protein; be it insulin or amylase. So - it could be argued that proteins are the molecules of life - the business end if you like - where the action really happens. What I have done in this book is to explain in question and answer form, the structure and function of proteins in a clear and easily understood manner. I know reading this book will improve your understanding of biochemistry and biology - and I am delighted to recommend it to you.
Since the epidemic began in the early 1980s it is estimated that over thirty million people worldwide have died from AIDS (the illness caused by the HIV virus). Around the same number are currently living with the disease and two million more people a year are becoming infected with it. Over three hundred million cases of malaria occur each year worldwide, with around one million people a year dying of it.More than three million people a year worldwide get cholera with around one hundred thousand people dying from it per year.Worldwide, more than one million people a year die of tuberculosis (TB) and around ten million people a year become newly infected with it. More than sixty thousand people worldwide suffer from cystic fibrosis. People with the disease on average, tend to die before they reach forty years old, sadly. This book is about explaining what causes these diseases and what cures or treatments are available. As they represent different types of disease in each case; I believe someone reading this will gain the understanding of not only AIDS, malaria, cholera, TB and cystic fibrosis; but also many other diseases that have the same or similar basis. This book will particularly benefit students of biology and medicine; but is written in understandable language for non-students; who may just have an interest in these diseases. I hope that by reading this book you gain an insight into the fascinating subject of the biology of these illnesses and that what you learn will benefit you and others around you.
Respiration is one of the processes that all living organisms have in common. As such it has to be one of the most important processes in biology; and one that it is always worthwhile to study and understand better. In this book I have explained the main principles of respiration and included an exam question and answer section with exam tips to help students. Often people who don't know chemistry well find respiration a difficult topic to grasp; so I have made the effort to explain the chemical terms used and make these easily understandable. Respiration is sure to come up on a Biology course; so I invite you to read this book to gain understanding of this fundamental topic. I am sure it will help you and I am very happy that it will do so.

This is the paperbound edition of a 2003 book. Clark (British history, U. of Kansas) offers a critique of modernist materialism and the "ultra-idealism" of the postmodernists while defending the usefulness of the historical method. The text is built around a series of discussions of key issues in early modern history, each of which bears on the und
Well-researched and insightful, The Paul Society lays bare the level of government dependence, corporate favoritism, the financial influence of unions, and the true motivations driving the decisions made by politicians of both parties. In this thought-provoking book, Jonathan Clark offers a revelatory look into the state of modern American politics and the way in which the self-interests of politicians and voters have helped to create a $16 trillion national debt. In The Paul Society, Clark delves into the origins of public policies that have helped shape America's welfare state, driven voter incentives, and affected the costs of everything from gasoline to health care. In what may be the most important political book of the year, The Paul Society will force you to leave the blissful ignorance of illusion and embrace the sometimes painful truth of reality.
'It is hard to write the history of the British Isles in these years as anything other than a success story.'In reality, nothing about these successes was preordained. In the mid seventeenth century the British Isles were marginal to Europe.
Six historians focus on the major themes and most dramatic moments of the last two millenia: the rise and fall of empires; reformation, revolution and restoration; wars both civil and global; and the enduring question of what it means to be British. .
