""Memorials Of The Rev. William Bull Of Newport Pagnel"" is a biographical book compiled by Josiah Bull, which primarily features the personal letters of the titular figure and his close friends, namely Newton, Cowper, and Thornton. William Bull was a prominent figure in the religious community during the 18th and 19th centuries, and this book chronicles his life, from his birth in 1738 to his death in 1814. The book provides a detailed account of his early life, education, and his eventual ordination as a minister. It also sheds light on his contributions to the Church of England, including his role in the abolition of slavery and his support for missionary work. The book is a valuable resource for historians, scholars, and anyone interested in the history of religion in England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
John Newton was an Anglican minister who was keenly aware of the fact that the Lord saves sinners -- his famous hymn "Amazing Grace" was written with himself in mind. After living for years in the degraded state of sin and spiritual rebellion, Newton was converted at sea while a slave trader and returned home to grow in the knowledge of the Lord. Led to the ministry, the Lord used his testimony of a sinner saved by grace to touch the lives of millions through his preaching and writings. Newton experienced the providential care of God throughout his life. His story is an amazing series of testimonials of the Lord's hand rescuing him from disaster and want. Daily he faithfully told others about God's free grace to him in his life, and he was enabled to stand upon the firm foundation of God's promises like few in his generation. It remains to this day a powerful incentive for the Lord's people to trust him in any and all circumstances, no matter how bad it may look. In Newton's words, if the Lord will save "a wretch like me," he will certainly have mercy on you as well.
