"Ziggy Zig-Zags the Light and Dark Fantastic, Volume 1" is a fantasy graphic novel with a story and scripting by awarded author Ron Baxley, Jr., art by renowned Oz artist Vincent Myrand, and layout and lettering by Ali Tavakoly (who has also done work in the comics industry). Ziggy, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi based on Ron's shelter-adopted emotional support dog of the same breed, is one of many steeds of the elves in Wales and is the elves' chosen champion for great quests. (According to Welsh mythology, in fact, the markings around many Pembroke Welsh Corgis' heads and around their necks indicated that small saddles and stirrups were once on their bodies and that the Corgis were used as horses by the elves and faeries). As a steed, with his saddle like a super hero cape, Ziggy is chosen by the elves to rescue various characters in different fantasy worlds, including Neverland, Oz, and Wonderland. He even has adventures in the modern reality of the "Out World" including with a figure fictionally attached to World War II. During Ziggy's quests, he is pursued by the Dark Elf, a fallen elf from the Welsh woods, and other foes. Like Baxley, Jr., he contends with anxiety during his quests. Ziggy wears a silver dog tag with the elven runes for valor and even anxiety written there. Whether he can evade his foe has to do largely with how he contends with his anxiety and holds with faith.

O.Z. Diggs the seventh, descendant of Oz the Great and Terrible Wizard, like all male heirs in his family, was cursed by the wicked witch of the West. Or so the story, which had been passed down through many generations, is told. He was the storyteller now, and the last of his line, fated by the witch's curse never to produce an heir. But he does think he has found a way out. In order to break the curse and thus allow himself and his family to return to Oz, he must be recognised as a descendant of his distant relative. Things seem to be set in motion. He has come across one of the magical staffs owned by Oz, and through it he received a message about a band of good wizards and witches that were also cast out from Oz. They call themselves the Society of the Walking Cane, and he is certain they can help him. But as is always the case, there are those of good, and those of evil, and those of evil will stop at nothing to ensure the witch's curse remains in place. Can he break the curse, or is he fated to be the end of his line? Find out in Ron Baxley, Jr.'s O.Z. Diggs Himself Out.O.Z. Diggs Himself Out is a spin-off of the popular Wizard of Oz, focusing around the distant descendants of the original Wizard, and a curse bestowed upon his line. Ron Baxley, Jr. writes in an imaginative first person perspective style which, alongside a serious plot, has elements of humour, and also darker humour to it. As stated in the book, the lines between the real adventure and that immortalised through the story have been altered. This allows the author to take something familiar and turn it to their own devices. There is a lot to like about this story, such as adventure and world building. It definitely fits quite nicely into the fantasy genre, and will appeal to that audience. Imaginative, fun, and enjoyable, O.Z. Diggs Himself Out makes for an entertaining read, whether you're a fan of the Wizard of Oz or not.K. J. Simmill, Readers Favorite LLC
