Værket udgør 3. bind i rækken Skrifter udgivet af Selskabet Bellman i Danmark. I tidsrummet 1895-1940 skrev litteraturhistorikerne Warburg, Schoning, Birket-Smith og Thomsen hver sin lille afhandling om receptionen af Bellmans digtning i Danmark og Bellmans indflydelse på dansk litteratur og musik. 1945 leverede Torben Krogh det hidtil vægtigste faglige bidrag til denne reception i form af sit skrift om Bellman "som musikalsk Digter". De fem studier blev udgivet som artikler eller små bøger og har siden kun foreligget spredt og svært tilgængeligt. De genudgives her for første gang, og i samlet formation. Afhandlingerne rummer tilsammen et væld af vigtige oplysninger for den Bellman-interesserede, men er i deres oprindelige skikkelse præget af deres tid, så at en nutidig læser føler savnet af forfatternes adgang til gode textudgaver og nyere Bellman-forskning og stedvis svigtes ved mindre strenge krav til akribi end dem, moderne litteraturforskere og filologer finder selvfølgelige. Disse svagheder rådes der her bod på: Alle citater og henvisninger er blevet kontrolleret og om nødvendigt rettet, et betydeligt antal noter af filologisk, bibliografisk, litteraturhistorisk og musikologisk art bidrager til at forklare, uddybe, præcisere og à jour-føre de ældre fremstillinger, og fælles registre til alle fem bidrag gør det foreliggende bind til et nyttigt opslagsværk for Bellmanianere. Udgiveren af dette bind og skriftrækkens redaktør er Jens Kr.
