In Dallas County Texas, a serious of vicious and mutilating killings are occurring suddenly for no apparent reasons. The victims are mostly young women but there appears to be no other pattern of linkage. The killer is brutal, sadistic, organized, and highly intelligent. He always stays well ahead of law enforcement and leaves no clues behind anywhere. A multiagency task force, including the feds, is formed to catch the killer before he kills more but it's far more difficult than they imagined. Profilers start focusing on a member of law enforcement as a possible suspect. Once the killer moves to other counties, he becomes more difficult to track down. He is devious and elusive and until they catch him, more women and even men will die.

In an indescript building in New York City, an unimaginable horror has appeared unseen to the world in its basement. After the first death of a female resident in its elevator which seemed to have a life of its own, further mysterious deaths occurred which couldn't be explained and were later linked to a paranormal horror which also couldn't be explained.
