Kevin Lewis grew up on a council estate in South London. Beaten and starved by his parents, ignored by the social services and bullied at school, he was offered a chance to escape this nightmare world and was put into care. Despite his best efforts to make things work out, his life spiralled out of control. At the age of 17 he became caught up in the criminal underworld of London, where he was known as 'The Kid'. From the violent anger he suffered at the hands of his mother and father, to the continuous torments at school; from the way in which he coped with rejection from people he trusted, to suffering from bulimia and a wish to take his own life, Kevin succeeded in making a better life for himself. This is his story ..
This is Devon's last drug run. He is looking to go on the straight and narrow path. The harder he fights to get out of this life, the more he feels like he is stuck in .......Quick$and.
From 2003 through 2014, Kevin's wife Rebecca became and served as the caregiver for her mother as she began to suffer from dementia. This condition was subsequently diagnosed as Alzheimer's. Two years after her passing, Kevin decided to put into writing the experiences and lessons that marked their journey through those years. It provides a simple chronological walk through this time, providing personal insights and advice in a conversational manner should anyone else find themselves serving in such a role.It also gives the view of a spouse who realized in retrospect what he was blind to and what he would have done differently.
Kidney diseases refer to the damage or diseases associated with the kidneys. The major cause of kidney diseases include the deposition of the immunoglobulin A antibodies in the glomerulus, toxicity of chemotherapy agents, xanthine oxidase deficiency, administration of analgesics and long-term exposure to lead or its salts. Rare kidney diseases include nephropathic cystinosis, acute kidney injury, nephrotic syndrome and Fabry disease. The common signs and symptoms of kidney diseases include fatigue, feeling cold, shortness of breath, swelling in hands or feet, nausea, vomiting, and upset stomach. Patients with kidney disease have difficulty in urinating. Their urine can also be foamy or bubbly, and dark colored like brown, red or purple. Diagnosis and management of kidney diseases is performed by examining the medical history, physical examination, urine test or an ultrasound of the kidneys. Dialysis and transplantation are major treatment methods for controlling the progression of end-stage renal diseases. This book explores the recent studies on rare kidney diseases. It is appropriate for students seeking detailed information about these diseases as well as for experts.
Kidney disease is a condition or disease that affects or damages the kidneys and their functions. Kidneys play an essential role in the normal functioning of the body. The functions of kidneys involve expelling waste products and impurities from the blood. There are several types of kidney diseases, such as chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease and urinary tract infections. Chronic kidney disease is the most common form of nephropathy caused by increased blood pressure and diabetes. Various tests like glomerular filtration rate (GFR), ultrasound or computed tomography (CT) scan, kidney biopsy and blood creatinine test are used to examine the stage of kidney disease. Treatment varies, depending on the stage of the disease. Preventive measures such as sufficient water intake, less salt and sugar consumption, and reduced smoking can be adopted to help reduce the risk of developing a kidney disease. The topics included in this book on kidney diseases are of utmost significance and bound to provide incredible insights to readers. Kidney diseases are the diseases that can affect or damage the kidneys. Diabetes and hypertension are the major risk factors for kidney disease and can cause kidney failure. Diabetes causes higher levels of sugar in blood that damages the kidneys and decreases their ability to filter waste and fluid from the blood, causing kidney disease over time. High blood pressure is the second most common cause of kidney failure, after diabetes. It narrows the blood vessels which reduces the blood flow and obstructs the normal functioning of kidneys. Eating healthy, being physically active and taking medicine on time can help slow the progression and prevent damage to kidneys. Renin-angiotensin system blockade, glycemic and blood pressure control are generally used therapeutic approaches for managing kidney diseases, but there are emerging therapies which focus on delaying fibrosis development and reducing inflammation. Furthermore, certain lifestyle changes, like managing stress, weight, and diet are also helpful in the management and prevention of kidney diseases. The aim of this book is to present researches that have transformed the study of kidney diseases. It attempts to understand the various interventions used for the management of kidney diseases as well as the emerging therapies.
