Je n¿y pensais pas, il y a six mois à peine, et il est probable qüil serait encore dans mon encrier, si les circonstances n¿avaient contrarié mon dessein. Il n¿y avait qüun livre, en effet, qui me trottât par la tête, depuis mes premiers essais sur Elvire. C¿était l¿histoire des rapports de Lamartine avec ses trois amis de collège qui furent Louis de Vignet, Guichard de Bienassis et Aymon de Virieu. Et pourquoi ce livre plutôt qüun autre ? "
