Grandpa Saba Bear Saves the Sun is a story about a selfish crocodile who for his own amusement swallows the sun in the sky and in the middle of the day leaves the whole animal community in complete darkness. The animals call to each other to fight the crocodile but are afraid of his many sharp teeth. Instead, they go to a very peaceful Grandpa Saba Bear, who lives with the Grandma Baba Bear in a house full of books under a giant tree, and tell him to wrestle the sun from the crocodile. It is so dark outside that the Bear grandparents cannot see their grand-cubs who were playing in the yard. This makes both Grandpa Saba and Grandma Baba very worried and they go around searching for the little ones and growling pitifully. Mother Rabbit tells Grandpa Bear that the only solution is to put the sun back in the sky and make the day light again. The Bear fights the villainous crocodile, saves the sun, and finds his grandchildren. The purpose of the story is to teach children the importance of grandparents who can bring light into the lives of their grandkids and are always ready to do so.

It is difficult to find books that can help little children choose what they want to be when they grow up. With so many grownups around them struggling with their identities, with so many choices, and so little knowledge, preschoolers today need such help. To develop their selves and decide who they are, they need simple, non-confrontational ideals. That's why, after decades of study and writing about our complex society, which makes identity formation so problematic, Liah Greenfeld decided to create a series of books for young children.

The Giant Cockroach is a story about a regular insect who appears giant to a tiny mite. The mite, who happens to be a reporter, broadcasts his mistaken view through the media, and the animals of Storytown, addicted to their sillyphones and TV screens, are convinced that they are facing a powerful monster. Frightened, they submit to the cockroach. And the cockroach, also convinced of his monstrous powers, becomes their dictator. Outsiders pointing to the animals in this echo-chamber their mistake are dismissed. Fortunately, a sparrow unaware of media reports sees the cockroach for what he is and swallows it, causing general celebration. The purpose of the story is to discourage among children a blind trust of the widespread unchecked views, encourage independent thinking, and suggest that standing up to evil is better than cowering before it. A leading interpreter of modernity argues that our culture of limitless self-fulfillment is making millions mentally ill. Training her analytic eye on manic depression and schizophrenia, Liah Greenfeld, in the culminating volume of her trilogy on nationalism, traces these dysfunctions to society’s overburdening demands for self-realization.
