I 1726 havde stykket "Den Stundesløse" premiere på Lille Grønnegade-teateret. Stykket er et eksempel på den klassiske intrigekomedie, hvor et ungt par ikke umiddelbart kan få hinanden, men hvor det via list alligevel lykkes dem og alt ender godt. I denne komedie skildrer Holberg den evigt stundesløse Vielgeschrey, som ustandseligt beklager sig over, at han ikke har tid nok (noget vi alle kan genkende i nutiden), skønt han i virkeligheden har tid nok, hvis ellers han disponerede mere fornuftigt over den. Dette unyttige tidsfordriv er et emne Holberg også i andre komedier og skrifter kommer ind på. Selvom Holbergs komedier er næsten 300 år gamle og henvender sig til den tids publikum, bliver de stadigvæk læst og opført i teatre overalt i Danmark. Den Stundesløse hører til blandt de populæreste og hyppigst spilled komedier af Holberg.

Holbergs komedie Den politiske Kandestøber er en af de bedste og mest muntre komedier fra hans hånd. Det var denne Komedie, som blev det første danske Skuespil på Lille Grønnegade Teatret, den 22. September 1722. Komedien blev ifølge Holberg selv en Succes; den holdt "Tilskuerne i Latter fra Begyndelsen til Enden, og Tilstrømningen var saa stor, at mange maatte blive staaende uden at kunne komme ind". Det har komedien gjort siden og er stadig den dag i dag en af de mest spillede elskede af Holbergs stykker. Flere af persongalleriet er blevet danske - og norske - "arketyper" og citater fra Kandestøberen er endog gledet ind I sproget (f.eks: "Et er et Søkort at forstå, et andet skib af føre"). Spillet er et typisk udtryk for den klassiske tankemåde. Det handler om en kandestøber, der forsømmer sit arbejde, fordi han hellere vil diskutere politik. Et par embedsmænd bilder ham ind, at han er blevet valgt til borgmester og overdynger ham derefter med juridiske sager, han ikke kan klare. Til sidst er kandestøberen parat til at tage sig selv af dage for at slippe for politikkens byrde. Men så går sagens rette sammenhæng op for ham, og han kan hengive sig til at være, hvad han altid har været; kandestøber. Moralen er klar: enhver skal stræbe efter at udfylde den sociale position, han eller hun nu engang har fået, og ikke skabe uorden i det hierarkiske system. Temaerne i Den Politiske Kandestøberen er evigt aktuelle og stykket er stadig en både god og underholdende læseoplevelse for den moderne læser.

I stedet for at prøve at løse sine problemer rationelt, fortrænger han dem ved et voldsomt drikkeri - og forstærker dermed problemerne så meget at de på det nærmeste bliver uløselige. En meget ond cirkel er etableret. Godsejeren, baronen, og hans folk beslutter at anstille et socialt eksperiment. De bærer Jeppe, der er den mest uduelige bonde af alle, og som er sanseløs af druk, op i baronens seng for at se, hvad der vil ske. Ludvig Holberg (født 1684 i Bergen, Norge - død 1754 i København) var en epokegørende dansk-norsk forfatter. Holberg er blevet kaldt "den danske litteraturs fader". Han var en produktiv og lærd forfatter, der udgav bøger om en lang række emner. Holberg skrev således både lærde videnskabelige værker om historie, geografi og filosofi, foruden nu klassiske skønlitterære værker indenfor genrerne komedier, romaner og poesi.
