The book (Concepts of Mathematics), having four chapters on diverse topics usually included in the mathematics syllabus of the first year Engineering class of most Universities. The first chapter deals with the Number Property Theory: Divisibility rules, Property, Ratios with suitable example. A brief discussion of Trigonometry is given in the second chapter. Trigonometry chapter include various points like Trigonometric Ratios, Trigonometric Identities, ASTC Rule, Arcs, Sectors, Segments, Trigonometric Graphs, Inverse Trigonometry, Range, Domain, Graph of Sin/Cos/Tan. The third chapter deals with the Coordinate Geometry and it includes coordinate plane, distance between two point, mid point, slope of line, equation of line, transformations, shifts (horizontal and vertical), stretches. Vectors are introduced in the fourth chapter and covered vector definition, addition, subtraction, unit vector, null vector, scalar multiplication, rank, dot product. Few questions are given based on vectors for practice in the last of fourth chapter.
Most students never learn how to think about solving problems. Throughout their education, they are constrained apply the material from each chapter to solve a few problems given at the end of each chapter (why else would a problem be at the end of the chapter?). With this type of approach to ¿problem solving,¿ it is not surprising that students prepared for framing and addressing real-world with instructions or textbooks. This book contents many puzzles which will ready to lend a hand for brain exercise. It also serves for the students who want to decipher many problem based on mathematical calculation, aptitude, and logic. Many university have their written test while company coming for campus placement, so this book will be obliging at that era. Puzzles are a form of play and play starts by suspending the rules of everyday life.Puzzles that are too easy are disappointing; puzzles that are too hard are discouraging.So, my view that the lack of problem solving skills in general is the consequence of decreasing levels of mathematical sophistication in modern societies. Hence, we believe that a different approach is needed.
