J'avais d'abord pris pour titre de cette étude: Le néo-classicisme, et ma première phrase avait été Le néo-classicisme est le style qui succède au style Louis XV; mais je ne tardai pas à m'apercevoir que c'était là une proposition inexacte, ou tout au moins trop superficiellement énoncée; car ce caractère de néo-classicisme par lequel on définit ordinairement l'art qui prit naissance dans la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle est bien loin d'en être le trait essentiel et distinctif. Pour comprendre cet art, pour savoir ce qu'il a été, il vaut mieux le désigner autrement et lui donner son vrai nom, celui d'Art de la Révolution française. L'art de la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle, en effet, a été l'art de la Révolution. Tout ce que la Révolution a fait, tout ce qu'elle a voulu, surtout tout ce qu'elle a rêvé, voilà ce que cet art a exprimé, voilà ce qui constitue son essence, son fonds propre, la source féconde de toutes ses inspirations. Si nous voulons en définir les caractères principaux, nous ne les chercherons pas dans des formes extérieures, dans des apparences plus ou moins superficielles, mais dans les idées maîtresses qui ont fait la Révolution elle-même...

Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: South Asia, grade: A+, , language: English, abstract: This paper analyzes the remittances and democratization nexus, using the Republic of the Philippines as a case study. The onset of this paper is a riddle. A number of scholars stress the positive impact of remittances on a society and its democratization. The Philippines has successfully sought to gain more remittances through a state driven labor export scheme and has been for many years among the top receiving countries in the world. Despite those conditions deemed propitious to democratization, the Philippines show many democracy deficits. Several scholars have claimed that remittances impact positively on democratization. However, a range of democratization indicators for the Philippines, belie this assertion.This paper delves into various aspects of the democratization, migration and remittance dynamics. Firstly, it examines the scholarly work on remittances (always understood in a wider sense, as comprising social and financial remittances) and the democratization history in the Philippines. Secondly, it argues the methodology used for this paper. Thirdly, it evaluates and describes a selected number of particularities of the Philippine democratic system and its labor export scheme.
