The analysis of grammar, manuals, dictionaries and different types of materials for language teaching is one of the most neglected aspects among researchers, especially if they are old works. However, the study, contrast and understanding of these works is fundamental to understand and fully appreciate the evolution and achievements obtained in this field, especially since the 70s of the last century.The work presented here attempts to alleviate, in part, this gap. This volume deals with the complex world of English teaching in Spain before it became a lingua franca and almost the only means of disseminating scientific and academic advances.
