This short, easy-to-read fable reveals the five habits that underlie leadership character and that determine leaders' success - and teaches leaders how to develop these habits. Like Mark Miller's previous books, this one follows the life, learning, and influence of Debbie Bruster. Here she finds herself mentoring Blake Brown, the son of her former mentor. Rather than answer Blake's questions about leadership directly, Debbie introduces him to other leaders, each of whom shares a unique perspective on what really makes a leader successful. As Blake puts the pieces together, he discovers his problem is not one of skills but of character, that leadership is more about the heart of the leader than the head or hands. In fact, Miller summarized these traits with the acronym HEART: Hunger for Wisdom, Expect the Best, Accept Responsibility, Respond with Courage, and Think Others First. With the help of his new friends and mentors, Blake is able to build a plan to transform his heart. The good news for all of us: leadership is not just the purview of the few - it is within reach for millions of aspiring leaders around the world. This book is the road map they need to get their lives and careers on track.

He talks frankly about family and fatherhood?of the hard lessons about masculinity and violence learned from his abusive father. He also offers an inspiring, exciting, and frank account of the fights?both in and out of the ring?that have shaped him.A deeply personal account of guts, blood, and glory, Pain Don't Hurt pays tribute to the never-say-die spirit embodied in a man who refuses to back down, no matter the odds.
Many studies have been conducted and literature produced surrounding the effects of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). This study examines the effects of NCLB and its impact on four rural southeastern Ohio school districts. Each district, classified as in need of improvement by the Ohio Department of Education, participated in the Ohio Improvement Process in an attempt to improve student achievement and meet the mandates of NCLB. The purpose of this study was to answer why school districts in rural southeast Ohio who have implemented the Ohio Improvement Process have various results on State assessments. A qualitative case study was conducted utilizing face-to-face interviews, examination of district report cards, collective bargaining agreements, district finances, and cultural influences. The method employed by the researcher to compile and filter the data gathered as a result of the interviews was hand-coding. Additional color-coding were used for commonality of terms. Overall, three themes, each with several sub-themes, emerged from the interview process.

Every great company has an engaged workforce, and nurturing a culture of engagement is at the heart of great leadership-employees who really care about their work, their coworkers, and the organization can supercharge a company's success. But for many years, engagement has been suffering. Gallop reports that 70 percent of employees are fully engaged on the job. Mark Miller draws on more than forty years of leadership experience to show leaders at all levels how to change the conversation and create real competitive advantage in the process. In the fourth book in Miller's High Performance Series, CEO Blake Brown sets out to discover how to create the kind of workplace where everyone feels excited to come to work, passionate about what he or she brings to the company, and energized at the end of the day. It's a journey that takes him literally all over the world-from Italy to Greece to Green Bay and more. What he discovers from the pages of history is as relevant as the evening news. Engagement unleashes untapped potential buried deep within the hearts of your people. An engaged workforce is more creative, more driven, and more enthusiastic about reaching company goals. If you put the lessons in this book to work, your people will never look at work, or their leaders, the same way again.

All high performance organizations have one thing in common: execution. The men and women who work there sustain performance at seemingly otherworldly levels of precision, accuracy, and consistency. In the fifth and final book of Mark Miller's High Performance series, he uses his trademark business fable format to show how any organization can cultivate the kind of everyday habits that yield extraordinary results. Miller tells the story of Blake Brown, a CEO who learns how to help his team to consistently excel at execution from a perhaps unlikely source: his son's high school football coach. The story is fictional, but the principles and practices are very real, derived from years of research led by a team from Stanford University. Miller and his team interviewed leaders and employees from numerous world-class organizations, including the Navy SEALS, Starbucks, Apple, Southwest Airlines, the Seattle Seahawks, Mayo Clinic, Cirque du Soleil, and more. The lessons learned were then field-tested with over seventy businesses employing over 7,000 people. Miller gives you proven tools to release the untapped potential in your people, create a strong competitive advantage, and win not just on game day but every day.

Winner of a 2019 International Book Award, Silver Medalist in the 2019 American Business Awards, Finalist for International Book of the Year at the 2019 Business Book Awards, and one of Forbes' Top Ten Business Books for 2018. A book for a different breed of business leader, one who looks beyond the moment to create a life of significance. Most of us are familiar with the traditional way of looking at legacy something preserved in the past. Traditional legacy is all around us, evidenced by the steady churn of autobiographies, bequests, commemorations, and dedications we are forever leaving in our collective cultural wake. This is not the legacy you will find in this book. Legacy in the Making celebrates an active, dynamic form of modern legacy, seen through the eyes of a select group of extraordinary men and women who are pursuing their enduring ambitions in the age of now. More than caretakers of the past, these modern legacy builders are also the authors of a vital today and tomorrow. Rather than leaving their legacies behind them, they are looking ahead to harness their long-term ambitions and inspire others to help carry them forward. These are not static, traditional legacies. These are legacies in the making.
By the bestselling authors of The Secret (over 350,000 copies sold): the legendary Ken Blanchard and Mark Miller, a top executive at one of the most successful restaurant chains in the country.Identifies the specific ways leaders must grow - on the job and off - to remain inspiring and effective.Written for both established leaders looking to ensure their continued effectiveness and those who aspire to leadership.Successful leaders don't rest on their laurels. Leadership must be a living process, not a title on a business card, and life means growth. As Ken Blanchard and Mark Miller write in the introduction, ''the path to increased influence, impact, and leadership effectiveness is paved with personal growth. Our capacity to grow determines our capacity to lead. It's really that simple.'' Great Leaders Grow shows leaders and aspiring leaders precisely which areas to focus on so they can remain effective throughout their lives. As the book opens, Debbie Brewster, an accomplished leader herself, becomes a mentor to Blake, her late mentor's son, as he begins his career. Debbie tells Blake, ''How well you and I serve will be determined by the decision to grow or not. Will you be a leader who is always ready to face the next challenge? Or will you be a leader who tries to apply yesterday's solutions to today's problems? The latter will ultimately fail. The difference: the decision to grow. And not a short-term decision but a decision to grow throughout your career and throughout your life. This single decision is a game changer for leaders.''Over the next several weeks Debbie reveals what this means in practical terms. She and Blake explore four ways that leaders must continue to grow, both on the job and off, because who you are as a leader is inextricably connected to who you are as a person. Whether you're a CEO or an entry-level employee, you'll be inspired to reflect on your own life and to design your own unique long-term growth plan, leading to not only continuing professional success but personal fulfillment as well.
Leaders Made Here Building a Leadership Culture Every organization dreams of having enough leaders. Yet most take a haphazard or inconsistent approach to leadership development. They either assume they can find new leaders when they need them or they believe leaders are born-they can't be made. The consequences of this thinking are devastating, creating a perpetual shortfall of high caliber leaders; without them, no organization can thrive. The good news: this problem is solvable! Bestselling author and Chick-fil-A executive Mark Miller describes how any organization can create a culture in which leaders are routinely and systematically developed, resulting in a surplus of leaders. Miller details how to nurture leaders throughout the organization, from the front lines to the executive ranks. He provides a game plan for organizations to create a deep and effective leadership bench. To bring his ideas to life, Miller uses the story of Blake, a new CEO, and Charles, and old friend and colleague, as they search for best practices from around the world to ensure a continuous supply of their most precious asset-leaders. Blake and his team then translate their findings into a practical plan that any organization can use to create a leadership culture that will ensure a sustainable competitive advantage and long-term success.
In this new edition of their classic business fable, Ken Blanchard and Mark Miller get at the heart of what makes a leader successful. Newly promoted but struggling young executive Debbie Brewster asks her mentor the one question she desperately needs answered: ''What is the secret of great leaders?'' His reply - ''great leaders serve'' - flummoxes her, but over time he reveals the five fundamental ways that leaders succeed through service. Along the way she learns: â¿¢ Why great leaders seem preoccupied with the future â¿¢ How people on the team ultimately determine your success or failure â¿¢ What three arenas require continuous improvement â¿¢ Why true success in leadership has two essential components â¿¢ How to knowingly strengthen - or unwittingly destroy - leadership credibility. The tenth anniversary edition includes a leadership self - assessment so readers can measure to what extent they lead by serving and where they can improve. The authors also have added answers to the most frequently asked questions about how to apply the SERVE model in the real world. As practical as it is uplifting, The Secret shares Blanchard's and Miller's wisdom about leadership in a form that anyone can easily understand and implement. This book will benefit not only those who read it but also the people who look to them for guidance and the organizations they serve.

Always a Tiger: Keep Movin’ Forward is written from the point of view of a common middle class man. Who, through all of the tragedy had to go to work, deal with middle class financial means, and set an example for his children. The book is an introspective, inspiring, and spiritual memoir of a man whose life’s career as an educator and coach has been dedicated toward the betterment of young people. Mark Miller’s unique personal story involves six different kinds of extreme tragedy: the cancer and death of his wife, Mark’s role in an automobile / motorcycle accident fatality, one murder, two suicides, losing two friends to brain cancer as well as almost losing his family in a single car accident of their own. Yet, through the power of attitude, choice, faith, family, football, and love, Mark has re-married and is trying to be better not bitter. Mark’s story is about the daily impact of his Christian faith, identifying with his family’s military heritage, the blessings of family, friends and loved ones as well as the application of the life lessons of football. Through the empowering attitude of the conscious choice to work to be better and not bitter, it is a testament to the time enduring fact that, even in death, God and love never fail. Always A Tiger: Keep Movin’ Forward is a memoir with direct interest for anybody needing or wanting a new perspective and appreciation about life. Successful leaders know and acknowledge the fact that assistants and subordinates perform most of the work that makes an organization successful. The Pareto Principle states that 20% of the people do 80% of the work within an organization. General Colin Powell and other great military leaders agree that the true status of an organization can be measured by getting feedback from the soldiers. Always A Tiger: Keep Movin’ Forward is written from the perspective of being a Military Dependent, not the solider. The perspective of a coordinator and / or assistant coach, not the head coach. The care giving husband and father, not the cancer patient. Adversity is defined as an unfavorable fortune, event, or circumstance. A Tragedy is a fatal, lamentable, or disastrous event. Priorities and their significance have distorted our views of reality and what is important in life. The purpose of this book is to help people prioritize their lives, identify those priorities significance, isolate the difference between adversity and tragedy, while equipping them with a daily approach and attitude toward life.
